‘Disrespectful’ – Glasner Fires Back At Claims Crystal Palace Beat A Weakened Liverpool
Crystal Palace’s Stunning 3-0 Victory Over Liverpool At Anfield Has Sparked Heated Debate — But Manager Oliver Glasner Isn’t Having Any Of It.
The Palace boss fiercely rejected the idea that his team’s emphatic win came against a weakened Liverpool side, calling such claims “disrespectful” to the quality of players Arne Slot fielded.
The Eagles were ruthless on the night, with Ismaila Sarr bagging a first-half brace and Yeremy Pino sealing the upset late on to send Palace flying into the fifth round of the Carabao Cup.
Much-Changed Liverpool Crumble
Arne Slot took a big gamble with his lineup — making 10 changes from the side that lost 3-2 to Brentford. The Reds rested key stars including Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, and Alexander Isak, opting for a youthful squad led by Federico Chiesa.
But the move backfired badly. Palace pressed high, countered with precision, and stunned the Kop with two lightning-fast goals from Sarr before halftime. Liverpool’s night went from bad to worse when substitute Amara Nallo was sent off, and Pino wrapped things up with a composed finish to make it 3-0.
Glasner Defends Liverpool’s Quality
Speaking after the game, Glasner insisted that every Liverpool player deserves full respect regardless of age or experience.
“I have seen Joe Gomez win the Champions League and the Premier League; I have seen Wataru Endo play for Japan; Alexis Mac Allister won the World Cup with Argentina; Kerkez cost £40m; Chiesa has played for Italy,” Glasner said.
“It would be disrespectful to call this a weakened team. Everyone who wears that Liverpool badge has quality.”
Slot Explains His Rotation Strategy
On the other hand, Arne Slot defended his heavy rotation, saying it was part of Liverpool’s long-term player development plan.
“People who follow this club know we use this competition to give younger players experience,” Slot told Sky Sports before the match.
“We’ve had very little recovery time between games, and with some key players still regaining fitness, it was important to protect them.”
Despite the manager’s reasoning, the defeat will sting — not just for the scoreline, but for the manner in which Palace dominated at Anfield.
Palace On The Rise
The victory marks a major statement from Glasner’s men, who showed energy, structure, and confidence throughout. With the win, Crystal Palace advance to the Carabao Cup fifth round, proving they’re not to be underestimated — no matter who lines up against them.
