Troost-Ekong Vows 100% Focus As Super Eagles Fight For World Cup Qualification
Following a slow start to their campaign, Nigeria’s Super Eagles are under mounting pressure to deliver in their upcoming fixtures against Lesotho and Benin Republic. With World Cup dreams hanging in the balance, these matches have now become must-win encounters if Nigeria are to revive their hopes and keep qualification alive.
Nigeria’s uphill battle in Group C
Nigeria currently sit third in their group, trailing Benin Republic in first and South Africa in second, with just three points separating them from the top. With only a handful of games left, the Super Eagles not only need victories but will also be hoping that results elsewhere work in their favor.
Troost-Ekong: “We have to do that”
Speaking ahead of the crucial tie, Super Eagles vice-captain William Troost-Ekong stressed the importance of maximum concentration. He warned against underestimating Lesotho, who have been solid in the group so far.
“We’re approaching this the same way we approached the game against South Africa. It’s important for us to go for all three points,” Ekong said.
“We have to show Lesotho respect—they’ve done well in the group and have picked up points against us also. So, yeah, it’s going to be an important game for both of us.”
Troost-Ekong further highlighted the team’s preparation:
“We’ve just been focused on our preparation. Like the coach said, we had two very good training sessions today and the third one here. We’re looking forward to the game tomorrow.”
Key players set to make an impact
The Super Eagles are currently camped in South Africa, with big names like Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, Alex Iwobi, and Wilfred Ndidi expected to play pivotal roles. Their presence could be the difference in what promises to be a decisive phase of the qualifiers.
A defining moment for Nigeria
As the battle for the World Cup ticket intensifies, Nigeria cannot afford any slip-ups. Troost-Ekong’s rallying call serves as a timely reminder: every point matters, every opponent deserves respect, and every match is a final.
For the Super Eagles, it’s all about focus, resilience, and turning pressure into performance.
