Wayne Rooney bags new job following Birmingham sack
Wayne Rooney, the former Manchester United and England star, is set to bring his footballing expertise to the BBC, joining the broadcaster’s punditry team for the FA Cup showdown between Manchester United and Nottingham Forest.
This marks a notable pivot in Rooney’s career, just two months after his tenure as Birmingham City manager was cut short by the ownership group led by Tom Brady.
In an unexpected twist, Rooney is diving into the world of sports broadcasting, ready to share his insights on a competition he knows intimately, both as a player and a coach. His inclusion in the BBC’s coverage of the prestigious FA Cup adds a layer of excitement for fans and viewers alike.
“Watching the BBC’s coverage of the FA Cup every year was always very special growing up. I’m so excited to be joining up with the team to cover what will undoubtedly be an action-packed tie in this historic competition.”
“Having played and managed in the competition, it’s great to be on the other side of the camera this time and hopefully, I can bring some of that FA Cup experience to the coverage,” Rooney shared, expressing his enthusiasm for his new role.
ooney’s football journey is nothing short of legendary. Having clinched an FA Cup title in the 2015-16 season with Manchester United, his transition to coaching saw him at the helm of Derby County, D.C. United, and most recently, Birmingham City. Despite a challenging stint at Birmingham, where he managed just two wins in 15 matches, Rooney’s passion for football remains undiminished.
His move to punditry reflects a desire to stay connected to the game, offering unique perspectives drawn from his extensive experience. Yet, Rooney’s ambition extends beyond the punditry desk; he harbors aspirations of returning to coaching, with a specific interest in learning under the tutelage of Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola.
