The squad will travel to Dublin immediately after a pre-season friendly against Paris Saint-Germain in Gothenburg, with the club eager to avoid distractions during a crucial period of preparations.

August 9 is also the date World Cup participants are expected to return to club duty, leaving United with only a small window to complete a transfer before Rashford rejoins the squad.

Rashford wants uncertainty resolved

The England international has made no secret of his desire to leave Manchester United permanently.

Before England’s World Cup clash with Mexico, Rashford reiterated that he wanted his future settled before the tournament but accepted any negotiations should continue only after international duty had concluded.

“I was very clear with everyone involved before the World Cup. I wanted it done before.”

“If it’s not, I wanted it to wait until after. I want to be fully present in the moment. We’re fighting for something special.”

Barcelona move collapsed

Rashford appeared set to join Barcelona permanently following an impressive loan spell in Spain.

The forward scored 14 goals as the Catalan club retained their La Liga title, but Barcelona ultimately decided against activating their £26 million purchase option before it expired on June 15.

Instead, the Spanish champions reportedly invested £70 million to sign Anthony Gordon, ending Rashford’s hopes of remaining at Camp Nou.

Although Tottenham have emerged as potential admirers, Rashford is reportedly prioritising a move to a club competing in next season’s UEFA Champions League.

His productive spell at Barcelona helped restore both his reputation and his place in the England squad, leaving the 28-year-old convinced he can still perform at Europe’s highest level.
