Benjamin Sesko told to score 25 goals for Manchester United as Dwight Yorke says £74m striker can ‘fly’ in Premier League

Manchester United striker Benjamin Sesko has been handed a clear objective for the 2026-27 season, with club legend Dwight Yorke insisting the Slovenian should score 25 goals if the Red Devils are to re-establish themselves among England’s elite.

The former United forward believes Sesko possesses all the qualities needed to become one of the Premier League’s most feared strikers after a promising first campaign at Old Trafford.

Yorke sets clear benchmark for Sesko

Manchester United signed Sesko from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2025 for a deal worth up to £74 million, hoping the 23-year-old would solve their long-standing problems in front of goal.

His introduction to English football proved challenging. Sesko failed to score until his seventh appearance, netting his first Premier League goal on September 27, and managed only two goals before the end of the calendar year.

However, the striker finished the season in double figures after showing flashes of the talent that convinced United to invest heavily in him.

Now, Yorke believes the time has come for Sesko to make the leap from promising forward to elite goalscorer.

Speaking to GOAL in association with BOYLE Sports, the 1999 Treble winner said:

“Benjamin Sesko should be scoring 25 goals this season for Manchester United. That’s what he should be able to deliver. He should have that target written down in his contract.

“You do that, you score those goals, you win, you fly, you get your team closer to where you need to be, and he’s capable of doing that. He works his socks off for the team and he’s got all the ingredients and a good presence about himself.”

United need a prolific No.9

Manchester United have spent several years searching for a reliable goalscorer capable of consistently delivering 20-plus goals per season.

While Sesko showed encouraging signs during his debut campaign, the club expects significantly more as Michael Carrick looks to guide United back into the Premier League title race.

A 25-goal return would represent the best league campaign of Sesko’s career and provide United with the clinical edge they have often lacked in recent seasons.

Another striker could still arrive

Despite their faith in Sesko, Manchester United continue to monitor the transfer market for additional attacking reinforcements.

Former United striker Louis Saha recently suggested the club should pursue a forward capable of complementing Sesko rather than replacing him.

Speaking to GOAL, Saha said:

“I would prefer someone like, I don’t know if I’m saying something crazy, but Kylian Mbappe, or someone that style. Where you have someone who’s a bit more like Olivier Giroud for Kylian Mbappe, and you have someone who can circulate around.

“This type of player, this is where Manchester United have always been dangerous. You have Dwight Yorke, who ran around Andy Cole, someone around Ruud van Nistelrooy, and this always worked. Whatever formation, whatever era, this formula works.”

United are expected to remain active before the transfer window closes as Carrick looks to strengthen his squad for a campaign in which the club hopes to challenge on multiple fronts.
