Xabi Alonso hints at more Chelsea transfers as he reveals plan to unleash Morgan Rogers and Cole Palmer together
Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has confirmed the Blues are not finished in the transfer market, insisting further arrivals and departures are expected before the window closes.
The Spaniard also revealed he already has a tactical blueprint for integrating record signing Morgan Rogers alongside Chelsea star Cole Palmer as he continues reshaping his squad ahead of the new season.
More transfer activity expected
Despite already spending heavily this summer, Alonso admitted Chelsea’s business is far from complete.
The Blues are reportedly closing in on Crystal Palace defender Maxence Lacroix in a deal worth around £52 million, while Strasbourg full-back Valentin Barco also remains on the club’s radar.
Speaking about Chelsea’s recruitment strategy, Alonso stressed that building the right squad balance remains the priority.
“We want a squad with the right balance between quality and mentality. Those things need to match in terms of maturity, but I think we are starting the new season with good energy. That’s important.”
Squad reshuffle still to come
With Chelsea’s senior squad approaching 40 players, Alonso acknowledged that departures will be just as important as new arrivals during the final weeks of the transfer window.
The Spanish coach believes flexibility will be crucial as the club finalises its plans.
“We need to know that there will probably still be some movement. We need to be flexible and quick to act.
“The main thing is that we have a clear idea, a clear plan that we have built. It will probably change before the transfer window closes.”
Chelsea are expected to streamline the squad to ensure every player has a defined role heading into the Premier League campaign.
Rogers and Palmer can thrive together
One of the biggest talking points surrounding Chelsea’s summer business has been how record signing Morgan Rogers will fit into the same team as Cole Palmer.
Both players excel in advanced attacking roles, but Alonso insists he already has a clear vision for making the partnership work.
“I have a plan. I have an idea. I can see them linking really well.
“We need to have a good mix. If we get that balance right and those special players in the right positions, with good control, then we will be more competitive with and without the ball.”
Rather than viewing the pair as rivals for the same position, Alonso believes their technical ability and creativity can complement each other in his attacking system.
Chelsea building for another title challenge
Chelsea have already enjoyed one of the busiest transfer windows in Europe, but Alonso’s comments suggest further changes remain likely before deadline day.
With more signings expected, outgoing transfers still to negotiate and an exciting partnership between Rogers and Palmer in the works, the Blues appear determined to build a squad capable of challenging for major honours on multiple fronts this season.
