Eli Junior Kroupi warned Arsenal are ‘different fish’ as Bournemouth sensation sees £85m transfer speculation grow

Arsenal have reportedly added Bournemouth striker Eli Junior Kroupi to their list of attacking targets, but former Gunner Mikael Silvestre believes the highly-rated Frenchman must think carefully before making such a significant step in his career.

The 20-year-old enjoyed a breakthrough campaign on the south coast and is now being linked with a blockbuster move worth as much as £85 million.

Kroupi’s value has skyrocketed

Bournemouth signed Kroupi from French side Lorient for just £10 million in the summer of 2025, and the investment has already paid off.

The France Under-21 international scored 13 Premier League goals during his debut season, playing a key role in helping the Cherries secure historic European qualification.

His rapid development has reportedly attracted interest from several elite clubs, including Premier League champions Arsenal, who are continuing their search for long-term attacking reinforcements.

Silvestre urges patience

Speaking to GOAL in association with Betinia, former Arsenal and France defender Mikael Silvestre admitted he has followed Kroupi’s career closely because of his connection with the player’s father, former Ivory Coast international Elie Kroupi.

“I played with his dad, so I follow his son’s footsteps,” Silvestre explained.

“We were together at the academy in Rennes. Seeing his son doing what he does already at such a young age for Bournemouth and for the France Under-21s is great.

“He needs to confirm at the highest level, with a lot more pressure. Bournemouth is a different fish than Arsenal.

“As a young player, if you want to break into the national team, you need to play week in, week out. He has to be careful with his next move.”

Arsenal continue striker assessment

Although Arsenal invested heavily in Viktor Gyokeres last summer, reports suggest Mikel Arteta remains open to adding further attacking quality.

World Cup winner Julian Alvarez has been strongly linked with the Gunners, but Atletico Madrid’s valuation could force Arsenal to consider alternative options.

Kroupi has enhanced his reputation further by scoring against Arsenal both home and away during the 2025-26 campaign.

Why Kroupi could still fit Arteta’s plans

Silvestre believes modern title-winning squads require different attacking profiles rather than relying on one type of striker.

“The Premier League is about different attributes,” he said.

“Sometimes you need players who are physically stronger and can be the focal point. Sometimes you need players like Kroupi.

“It’s good to have variety. Gabriel Jesus offers different qualities than Gyokeres. You need balance in your front line because you’ll face different tactical situations throughout the season.

“Arsenal have been criticised for being predictable in the past, so having different attacking options can only help.”

For now, Bournemouth remain under no pressure to sell after Kroupi’s outstanding debut season, and any interested club is expected to face a hefty asking price.

Whether Arsenal decide to test Bournemouth’s resolve remains to be seen, but Silvestre believes the young French striker’s biggest priority should be choosing a move that guarantees regular football rather than simply joining one of Europe’s biggest clubs.
