Christian Pulisic handed transfer advice amid AC Milan uncertainty as World Cup form boosts stock
Christian Pulisic’s impressive start to the 2026 World Cup has inevitably reignited speculation surrounding his future at AC Milan, but former United States goalkeeper Kasey Keller believes the American star should think carefully before seeking another major transfer.
The USMNT captain remains one of the biggest attractions of the tournament on home soil and has already reminded supporters why he remains one of the most influential players in American football history.
World Cup spotlight reignites transfer talk
Pulisic entered the competition carrying questions about both his fitness and club future.
After picking up a minor knock during the United States’ 4-1 victory over Paraguay, concerns briefly emerged regarding his availability for upcoming matches. However, the 27-year-old has continued training and remains a key part of Mauricio Pochettino’s plans.
Away from international duty, uncertainty continues to surround his long-term future at AC Milan. While his contract runs until 2027, negotiations over an extension have yet to produce an agreement, prompting fresh links with clubs across Europe, including several Premier League sides.
With former Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim now taking charge at San Siro, another summer of change is unfolding in Milan, adding further intrigue to Pulisic’s situation.
Keller urges caution over another move
Speaking exclusively to GOAL, former USMNT goalkeeper Kasey Keller acknowledged that strong World Cup performances naturally place players in the transfer spotlight.
However, he questioned whether leaving Milan would necessarily be the best decision.
“Yes, but I think after the difficulties of Chelsea, there is something about being somewhere where you’re comfortable, you’re successful, you’re established, and it just happens to be AC Milan,” Keller explained.
“We all know it’s not the AC Milan of the 90s, but it’s still one of the biggest clubs in the world.”
The former goalkeeper suggested that while opportunities may emerge, Pulisic must weigh the risks of starting over elsewhere.
“If Christian says, ‘I want to have another crack at England or maybe Spain’, cool. But at the same time, you’re at a great place, so if that’s what’s right for you, then that’s what’s right for you.”
Relief factor helping Pulisic shine
Pulisic has looked revitalised since arriving with the national team.
After enduring a frustrating second half of the season in Italy and failing to score for Milan throughout 2026, he arrived at the World Cup carrying something to prove.
A confidence-boosting goal against Senegal in a pre-tournament friendly appeared to reignite his spark, and he followed it up with a standout display against Paraguay, producing an assist for Folarin Balogun and tormenting defenders with his direct running.
Keller believes that breakthrough moment may have lifted a significant burden from the American star.
“We were talking before the tournament started and saying, ‘Was that a relief factor for Christian to get that goal and play so well?'” Keller said.
“Clearly it was because what a tremendous performance in that first half. He basically put the game more or less out of reach.”
Pulisic leading by example
The United States entered the tournament knowing their biggest stars would need to deliver if they hoped to make a deep run on home soil.
Pulisic has embraced that responsibility once again.
“We said before the tournament that the stars need to be stars,” Keller added.
“Players need to play their roles, and then if you can get that surprise here and there, bonus. That was pretty much what happened in the first match.”
As the World Cup progresses, Pulisic’s performances will continue to attract attention from across Europe. Whether that results in a new contract at AC Milan or a fresh challenge elsewhere remains to be seen.
For now, however, his focus remains firmly on helping the United States make history on home soil.
