Kylian Mbappe’s Longevity Compared To Messi & Ronaldo As 100-Goal Target Discussed
Kylian Mbappé has seen his long-term durability compared to that of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, with questions raised over whether the Real Madrid C.F. and France superstar can reach the 100-goal milestone at international level.
Former Arsenal F.C. striker Jérémie Aliadière admits he is a huge admirer of his fellow countryman — but has slight concerns over whether Mbappe can maintain elite performance levels into his mid-30s.
How Close Is Mbappe To France’s Record?
Mbappe currently has 55 goals in 94 appearances for France national football team.
He sits just two goals behind Olivier Giroud’s all-time France record of 57 — a milestone widely expected to fall in the near future.
However, after that, the benchmark rises significantly. Both Messi (Argentina) and Ronaldo (Portugal) have surpassed 100 international goals — a rare feat in world football.
Aliadiere’s Longevity Concern
Aliadiere believes Mbappe has the quality to get there — if he stays fit.
“No doubt. If he keeps fit, he’s the best player for me,” he told GOAL.
“The only thing I would say, because he started playing when he was so young, would he be able to have the longevity that Cristiano Ronaldo and Messi had?”
The former forward pointed out the increasing physical demands of modern football, questioning whether Mbappe can still dominate at 35 the way Ronaldo and Messi have.
“45 to go to the 100, he’s still got a long way to go. He’s got to carry on performing.
But I can’t see him not going to the numbers because he’s playing for one of the best clubs in the world.”
World Cup Factor
Mbappe has already won the 2018 World Cup and scored a hat-trick in the dramatic 2022 final against Argentina. He is expected to lead France again at this summer’s tournament in North America.
Strong World Cup campaigns could significantly boost his tally — much like they did for Messi and Ronaldo over the years.
Giroud Accepts The Inevitable
Giroud, now back in France after spells with Chelsea, AC Milan and LAFC, has already accepted that his record will fall.
“Of course, he’ll beat me. He has at least another five, seven, or even more years in the France national team. I hope that he even reaches 100 goals.”
Mbappe’s Focus Remains On Team Success
For his part, Mbappe has downplayed personal milestones.
“The most important thing is to win and help the team. The record will come naturally.”
At 27, time is firmly on his side. The real question is not whether Mbappe has the talent — but whether he can sustain the physical and mental edge required to join Messi and Ronaldo in the exclusive 100-goal club.
