Angry Arne Slot Slams Liverpool’s ‘Worst Performance’ Despite Late Win At Nottingham Forest
Arne Slot did not hold back after Liverpool escaped with a dramatic 1-0 victory over Nottingham Forest, admitting his side “got more than we deserved” following what he labelled their worst display of the season.
Despite a 97th-minute winner from Alexis Mac Allister, the Liverpool boss cut a frustrated figure after watching his team struggle badly for rhythm, energy and control at the City Ground.
Slot Furious With Liverpool’s First-Half Horror Show
Liverpool were second best throughout the opening 45 minutes, failing to register a single shot on target and barely threatening Forest’s penalty area.
Slot revealed he told his players bluntly at half-time that their level had dropped dramatically.
“The first half was really poor, the worst we’ve played until now,” he said.
“I think we got more than we deserved. A draw would have been a fairer result.”
The Dutch coach admitted his side were fortunate to reach the break at 0-0, praising only their defensive resilience inside the box as Forest dominated possession and territory.
Late Drama Rescues Liverpool
The match exploded into life late on when Mac Allister appeared to score in the 89th minute, only for VAR to rule the goal out for handball after the ball ricocheted off him.
But Liverpool snatched victory deep into stoppage time. Dominik Szoboszlai delivered a precise cross and Mac Allister converted at the second attempt to secure three unlikely points.
It was the Argentine’s first Premier League goal of the season — and one that masked a deeply concerning team performance.
Mac Allister: We Didn’t Play Well
Even the match-winner admitted Liverpool’s display fell far below their usual standards.
“Mixed feelings to be honest. I love scoring, I love winning, but I don’t think we played very well,” he said.
“The intensity wasn’t there. We need to analyse what went wrong.”
Warning Sign Despite The Win
For Liverpool, the result strengthens their title push — but the performance raises questions about fatigue, intensity and consistency at a decisive stage of the campaign.
Slot’s unusually harsh public assessment sends a clear message: results alone will not mask declining standards inside this Liverpool side.
If anything, this smash-and-grab may prove more valuable as a wake-up call than a celebration.
