River Plate to Receive €5m From Enzo Fernandez’s Manchester City Transfer
River Plate Set for Another Multi-Million Windfall From Enzo Fernandez’s Manchester City Move
Enzo Fernandez’s blockbuster move to Manchester City is set to deliver yet another huge payday for the club that helped develop him.
River Plate are reportedly in line to receive around €5 million after the Argentine midfielder completed his reported £125 million move from Chelsea to Manchester City.
For River, Fernandez’s transfer is another reminder that developing young talent can become an extremely profitable business.
River to receive €5 million
Fernandez’s latest transfer will trigger a payment to River Plate through FIFA’s solidarity mechanism, which rewards clubs involved in a player’s development.
According to reports, River are entitled to around 3.37% of the transfer fee, translating to approximately €4.92 million from the Manchester City deal.
The money is expected to be paid in instalments according to the agreed transfer schedule between Chelsea and City.
Not bad for a player who left Argentina for Europe in 2022.
Fernandez has become River’s cash machine
The latest windfall takes the total amount River Plate have generated from Fernandez’s European career to almost €60 million, according to reports.
And the Argentine giants’ biggest piece of business came from the original sale.
River sold Fernandez to Benfica for around €18 million but retained a 25% sell-on clause.
That decision proved incredibly valuable.
Just six months later, Chelsea paid around €121 million to sign the midfielder, giving River another enormous financial boost.
Now, his move to Manchester City has delivered another payout.
A blueprint for player development
Fernandez’s story highlights the financial power of a strong academy system.
River Plate didn’t just develop a player who went on to become a Premier League star. They also structured his transfers in a way that allowed the club to continue benefiting from his success.
Every major move has effectively created another payday for the Buenos Aires giants.
And with the latest Manchester City transfer, River are once again collecting millions from a player who left their academy years ago.
One academy graduate. Multiple blockbuster transfers. Millions back into River Plate’s coffers.
For River, Enzo Fernandez isn’t just a former player.
He’s the gift that keeps on giving.
