Bayern Munich Dismiss Upamecano Ultimatum Claims Amid Real Madrid And PSG Interest

Bayern Munich have moved quickly to pour cold water on reports suggesting Dayot Upamecano is applying pressure on the club over his future. Sporting director Max Eberl has branded claims of “threats and ultimatums” as pure nonsense, insisting that contract negotiations with the French defender are calm, ongoing, and positive.

With interest from European heavyweights Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain swirling, Upamecano’s situation has become one of the most talked-about topics in German football. Bayern, however, are keen to keep the focus on renewal rather than rumours.

Eberl Shuts Down “Nonsense” Reports

Recent reports claimed that Upamecano’s camp had issued firm demands and drawn a hard line in negotiations, raising fears Bayern could be forced into a difficult decision as the January transfer window approaches.

Eberl was unequivocal in his response.

“Basically, I am very confident, I have said that often enough here,” he told reporters. “We have already discussed contract extensions together over weeks and months. Our great wish is to extend.

“What is circling around us — that he had cancelled, threats, ultimatums — all nonsense. We are talking and we are talking very well.”

The Bayern director made it clear there is no breakdown in communication and no hostility behind the scenes, directly contradicting speculation in the media.

Is A Decision Coming Before Christmas?

With the Bundesliga heading into its winter break, questions remain over how soon clarity will arrive. Eberl hinted that Bayern would love to resolve the situation before the end of the year but stopped short of making any guarantees.

Using a festive analogy, he said: “I don’t know what else is coming behind the individual doors in the Advent calendar. That would be desirable, but I can’t promise that.”

He added that the window for agreement is narrowing, but remains hopeful the defender will commit his future to the club.

“My wish would be that he goes through it and not past it,” Eberl said.

Why Bayern Are Keen To Secure Upamecano

Despite occasional high-profile mistakes, Upamecano remains a key figure in Bayern’s defensive setup. His pace, physicality, and ability to step into midfield with the ball make him a vital asset, especially against elite opposition.

When fit, he is often one of the first names on the team sheet and continues to enjoy the trust of the coaching staff. Bayern see him as central to their present and future plans, which explains their determination to reach an agreement.

Real Madrid And PSG Watching Closely

Bayern’s urgency is heightened by genuine interest from abroad. Real Madrid are monitoring centre-back options amid recurring defensive injuries, while PSG remain keen on top French internationals as part of their recruitment philosophy.

For now, Bayern are standing firm. The message from Munich is clear: there are no ultimatums, no threats, and no panic — just ongoing talks with confidence that a deal can be done.

Whether that confidence translates into a signed contract before the winter break remains to be seen.

Bilic returns to the national team after more than a decade away, ending a two-year absence from management as he begins a second spell in charge of his country. ## Bilic begins a second spell with Croatia The Croatian Football Federation (HNS) announced Bilic’s appointment after the Executive Committee unanimously approved the recommendation of federation president Marijan Kustic. Bilic previously managed Croatia between 2006 and 2012, guiding the national team through two European Championships before embarking on a successful club coaching career that included spells with West Ham United, West Bromwich Albion, Besiktas and Al-Ittihad. The federation believes his experience and deep understanding of Croatian football make him the ideal candidate to lead the next generation. ## Huge task replacing Zlatko Dalic Bilic succeeds one of the most successful managers in Croatia’s history. Dalic stepped down after the 2026 World Cup, bringing an end to a remarkable tenure that included a World Cup final, a World Cup semi-final and several memorable tournament campaigns. Federation president Marijan Kustic acknowledged the size of the challenge but expressed complete confidence in Bilic. > “I would like to once again thank Zlatko for the exceptional results he achieved during his tenure. It is not easy to follow in his footsteps, but we are convinced Slaven is the right person for this role.” Kustic added that Bilic’s international pedigree and extensive coaching experience were decisive factors behind the appointment. ## Bilic honoured to return Bilic described his return as the greatest honour of his coaching career and admitted he understands the expectations that come with leading one of international football’s most consistent tournament teams. > “I would like to thank President Kustic and the Federation’s leadership for the confidence they have shown in allowing me to lead the Croatian national team once again — the greatest honour for any Croatian coach.” The 57-year-old also praised the standards established under Dalic while insisting he is ready for the responsibility. > “I am fully aware of the high expectations that follow such a remarkable period under Zlatko Dalic, but anyone who takes charge of Croatia must be prepared for that because we are a football nation that lives and breathes its national team.” ## A new chapter begins Bilic now faces the task of building on Dalic’s legacy while preparing Croatia for the next international cycle. With a blend of experienced stars and emerging young talent at his disposal, Croatia will hope their returning manager can guide them to another successful era on the international stage.
