Manchester United Hit With Fresh Blow As Matheus Cunha Ruled Out Of Crystal Palace Clash
Manchester United’s road form has been shaky all season, and now they’re heading to Selhurst Park without one of their key attacking threats.
Matheus Cunha will miss Sunday’s clash against Crystal Palace after suffering a head injury in training earlier this week—a blow that adds to United’s growing injury list.
Cunha placed in concussion protocol after training accident
The Brazilian forward was notably absent from United’s 1-0 defeat to Everton on Monday, and fresh reports have now revealed why.
Cunha was “almost knocked out” during a training ground incident and has since entered the club’s concussion protocol, ruling him out of any match participation until he completes all medical clearance steps.
Concussion management in the Premier League has become stricter in recent seasons, meaning even minor incidents require a mandatory recovery window. United are taking no risks.
Ruben Amorim confirms Cunha will miss the match
Manager Ruben Amorim addressed the situation in his pre-match press conference, confirming that Cunha won’t be available for the Crystal Palace game—but should return soon.
“I expect to have Matheus in the next one, not this one,” he said, referencing Thursday’s meeting with West Ham.
Although the manager initially suggested the injury was “not serious,” medical protocol has forced a cautious approach.
Sesko and Maguire also remain sidelined
It doesn’t stop with Cunha.
Benjamin Sesko and Harry Maguire—both missing the Everton game—are still unavailable.
Amorim dismissed rumours of a setback for Sesko, saying:
“No, no. It will take a little bit longer and we are taking care of him.”
Maguire, meanwhile, continues rehabilitation from his own knock.
With United managing multiple injuries at once, their squad depth will be tested—especially away from home, where they have managed just one win all season.
A crucial fixture for United’s season
Sunday’s match at Selhurst Park could prove pivotal.
Crystal Palace are strong at home, United are struggling on the road, and the pressure is mounting on Amorim to turn performances around.
Cunha’s absence removes an attacking spark, while the ongoing injury crisis forces further tactical improvisation.
If United want to stay competitive in the Premier League’s top-seven race, they need a strong response—even with a depleted squad.
