Samuel Chukwueze Urges Super Eagles To Focus On DR Congo After 4-1 Win Over Gabon
Samuel Chukwueze has called on the Super Eagles to keep their eyes on the prize following Nigeria’s emphatic 4-1 victory over Gabon in the CAF World Cup qualifying playoffs.
The Fulham winger stressed that while the team deserves a brief celebration, the upcoming final against the Democratic Republic of Congo is the priority.
“For now, we have to celebrate a little bit and focus on the next game on Sunday,” Chukwueze told Victor Modo. “The Sunday game is more important. We have won today and all heads on Sunday.”
Chukwueze also highlighted the unity within the squad and the management’s faith in the players as key factors in their success so far. He urged his teammates to channel their commitment, which has been building since the start of the qualification process, into the final performance.
“Yeah, because the team worked together and we are together… and the most important thing is that the coach believes in us,” he added. “We have been working through this from March, if I’m not mistaken, and they have been paying us. This is the time for us to focus and give everything.”
The Super Eagles now turn their full attention to the decisive clash against DR Congo at the Prince Héritier Moulay El Hassan Sports Complex in Rabat on Sunday, with Nigeria hoping to secure a place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Inter-Continental Play-Off Tournament.
