Akash Kumar Choudhary Smashes Eight Consecutive Sixes To Record Fastest Fifty In First-Class Cricket
Indian domestic cricketer Akash Kumar Choudhary has etched his name into cricket history with a jaw-dropping performance in a Ranji Trophy Plate Group match between Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh in Surat, Gujarat.
The 25-year-old smashed eight consecutive sixes, achieving the fastest fifty in first-class cricket history in just 11 balls.
Record-Breaking Batting Display
Coming in at number eight with Meghalaya at 576-6, Akash began his innings with a dot ball and two singles. He then unleashed a barrage, hitting six straight sixes off left-arm spinner Limar Dabi.
This achievement made him only the third player in first-class cricket to hit six sixes in an over, joining Sir Garfield Sobers (1968) and Ravi Shastri (1985).
Akash didn’t stop there — he followed up with two more sixes off off-spinner TNR Mohith, completing a record-breaking fifty in just 11 balls, surpassing Wayne White’s 12-ball record for Leicestershire in 2012. He finished unbeaten on 50 from 14 balls before Meghalaya declared at 629-8.
All-Round Heroics With The Ball
Akash’s brilliance wasn’t limited to batting. The seam bowler helped Meghalaya dominate with the ball as well.
