Denmark Coach Riemer Blames Man United For Hojlund’s Goal Struggles

Denmark manager Brian Riemer has aimed a subtle dig at Manchester United, blaming the club’s inability to provide the right service for Rasmus Hojlund as the main reason behind his struggles in front of goal at Old Trafford.

The comments come after the 21-year-old striker netted twice in Denmark’s 6-0 demolition of Belarus on Thursday, continuing his sharp form at Napoli and for the national team.

“Service Makes The Striker”

Speaking with TipsBladet, Riemer highlighted how much of Hojlund’s resurgence is tied to having the right support system:

“Does he fit in Italian football? Yes. There was no doubt about that, because he had already proven that. But that doesn’t mean he doesn’t fit in English football. On the contrary, I would almost say the fact that he is now on a well-functioning team and has players around him who take pride in doing good for others helps to make the outcome for a striker like Rasmus, who needs to be serviced. It is more important than which league you play in.”

Contrasting Napoli And Manchester United

At Napoli, Hojlund has thrived under a system built on fluid attacking play, with teammates consistently supplying him with chances in and around the box.

In contrast, his time at Manchester United has been marked by frustration, with limited service and a disjointed midfield often leaving him isolated up front.

The Bigger Picture

Hojlund’s brace against Belarus not only underlined his sharpness but also reignited the debate about how strikers are used at club level. For Denmark and Napoli, he looks like a clinical forward. For United, he too often looked like a passenger.

As Riemer put it, “it’s not about the league, it’s about the system.”
