Joao Pedro celebrating for Chelsea after winning the club’s Player of the Season award.
Joao Pedro has been crowned Player of the Season at Chelsea F.C. — only hours after suffering the heartbreak of missing out on Brazil’s World Cup squad.
The Brazilian forward dominated the club’s fan vote, receiving more than 60 percent of total votes to comfortably finish ahead of teammates Enzo Fernández and Moisés Caicedo.
While Stamford Bridge celebrated his outstanding campaign, the timing of the announcement added a bittersweet twist after Carlo Ancelotti excluded him from Brazil’s squad for the upcoming World Cup.
Since arriving from Brighton & Hove Albion F.C. in a £60 million move last summer, Joao Pedro has quickly become one of Chelsea’s most influential players.
The 24-year-old has delivered an exceptional debut season, registering:
His performances have placed him among elite company in Chelsea history.
Joao Pedro became only the sixth player ever to record 20 Premier League goal involvements during a debut campaign for the club, joining legendary names such as:
With two league games still remaining, his numbers could improve even further.
Despite his impressive form in England, Joao Pedro was surprisingly omitted from Brazil’s World Cup squad.
Ancelotti instead chose to include Neymar, despite ongoing concerns surrounding the veteran forward’s fitness after recent injury struggles at Santos FC.
The decision immediately sparked debate among fans and pundits, many of whom believed Joao Pedro deserved a place based on current form.
Speaking after unveiling the squad, Ancelotti admitted that several players would inevitably feel disappointed.
“Some of the players who were with us this year won’t be happy with this list,” the Brazil coach explained.
“I’m sorry, and I want to thank everyone who was with us.”
Although he did not directly single out Joao Pedro, the Chelsea forward was widely considered one of the biggest omissions from the squad.
Rather than reacting with frustration, Joao Pedro delivered a calm and mature response on social media.
“I tried to give my best at all times,” he wrote on Instagram.
“Unfortunately, it wasn’t possible to fulfill this dream of representing my country in a World Cup, but I remain calm and focused.”
The Chelsea star also pledged his support for the Brazilian national team during the tournament.
“Joys and frustrations are part of football,” he added.
“I will be just another fan cheering for them to bring the sixth title home.”
While Brazil may have overlooked him for now, Chelsea supporters have made their feelings crystal clear.
Winning the club’s Player of the Season award in his debut campaign underlines just how quickly Joao Pedro has become a fan favourite at Stamford Bridge.
And after such an explosive season, many believe it is only a matter of time before Brazil comes calling again.
