Barcelona Clears €40M In Financial Fair Play Space
Barcelona have had a very busy summer, not in terms of recruiting new players but in helping the club return to the financial 1:1 rule.
The Catalans had seemingly achieved the objective by leveraging the sale of the rights of Spotify Camp Nou’s VIP boxes, but La Liga refused to authorise the operation given that the seats did not physically exist at that point.
Joan Laporta and Co., thus, have been working hard to free the salary space through player sales, renewals and other adjustments and Mundo Deportivo now relays that the Catalans have freed up a staggering €40 million in Fair Play margin this summer.
Three new updates
Up until last week, Barcelona had cleared up a sum of €36 million from their roster, and this week they have completed three more, which take the sum to €40 million.
The first of the three operations is the loan of Inaki Pena to Elche, which cleared his entire salary as it will be assumed by his new club.
The sale of Jan Virgili to Mallorca was the second and it cleared a sum of close to €700,000 for the club.
The third operation they completed is the termination of Oriol Romeu’s contract, through which they cleared 60% of the amortisation of the player’s salary. Thus, they will be freed from €2.1 million of the €3.5 million he earned at the club.
Prior to these operations, Barcelona made significant progress through the renewal of Jules Kounde and sales of Inigo Martinez and Ansu Fati, which released around €6 million, €8.4 million and €8 million respectively.
Notably, Clement Lenglet’s departure freed up €6.4 million from Barcelona’s books.
Smaller departures like that of Pau Victor, Pablo Torre and the windfall from Francisco Trincao’s rights all contributed to the club now reaching the €40 million mark.
It remains to be seen if that number increases in the coming days, especially with the likes of Fermin Lopez and Hector Fort linked with exits.
What comes as big news to the club, however, is that they might be in a position to register players despite still not hitting the 1:1 mark.
