Walker Completes Burnley Move From City
Kyle Walker is to join Burnley bringing an end to a hugely successful eight-year stay with Manchester City.
During the course of his time at the Etihad, the England defender played a key role in what has proved the most successful period in the Club’s history, going on to make 319 appearances across all competitions and scoring six goals before then spending the second half of the 2024/25 season on loan with AC Milan.
Walker joined City from Tottenham Hotspur in July 2017 and quickly established himself as one of the key figures in Pep Guardiola’s new-look, vibrant attacking side.
And his subsequent contribution helped City attain what has proved an unparalleled era of achievement.
Blessed with phenomenal speed, great vision and awareness as well as excellent technical quality, Walker’s time at the Etihad saw him cement his standing as one of the finest full-backs operating in the game and a model of consistency.
Appointed captain by his City peers at the outset of the 2023/24 campaign, Walker went on to help lead City to what proved a historic fourth consecutive Premier League title last term – an achievement no other English men’s side had ever achieved.
He also helped captain City to glory in the 2023 UEFA Super Cup and 2023 FIFA Club World Cup.
In the process Pep Guardiola’s City became the first English club to secure the Big Five trophies of the Premier League, FA Cup, Champions League, Super Cup and Club World Cup in a single calendar year.
All told over the course of his seven and a half seasons at the Etihad, Walker won 18 major honours, a haul comprising of six Premier League titles, two FA Cups, four League Cups, two Community Shields, a UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup.
The defender’s speed, vision and awareness allied to his technical quality also saw him selected as part of the PFA Premier League Team of the Year in 2017, 2018 and 2024 as well as also being named in the 2023 FIFA FIFPro World XI and the 2023 UEFA Champions League Team of the Season.
Walker was also the recipient of the 2023 FIFA Club World Cup Silver Ball.
On the international front, meanwhile, his impact for England has seen the 34-year-old amass 96 caps to date, with Walker figuring at both the 2018 and 2022 World Cups, and also helping lead the Three Lions to the finals of both EURO 2020 and 2024, where he was vice-captain.
Walker was also named in the EURO Team of the Tournament in both 2020 and 2024.
Everyone at Manchester City wishes Kyle the very best of luck in this new chapter of his career.
