Palace Manager Approves Marc Guehi Sale To Liverpool

Palace Manager Approves Marc Guehi Sale To Liverpool

Crystal Palace are bracing themselves for a formal bid from Liverpool for Marc Guehi, as they continue negotiations with Sporting CP over a potential deal for his replacement, Ousmane Diomande. With Guehi nearing the final year of his contract at Selhurst Park, the Eagles are prepared to cash in on their FA Cup hero to avoid losing him on a free transfer in 2026.

Liverpool aren’t the only club interested in the 24-year-old, but Arne Slot’s Premier League champions are now emerging as clear favourites to secure Guehi’s services. Meanwhile, Palace are also ramping up their pursuit of Ivory Coast international Diomande.

The sought-after 21-year-old reportedly has a £68million release clause in his Sporting contract. While Palace aren’t ready to meet that figure, they’re willing to break their club-record to bring the talented centre-back to Selhurst Park.

Progress has already been made on personal terms, with Diomande open to the move and Palace maintaining good relations with player’s agency ROOF, who also represent left wing-back Tyrick Mitchell.

The Mirror claim that Oliver Glasner has personally approved a swoop for Diomande, confident in his potential and versatility within the Austrian’s three-man defensive line.

Newcastle United, long-time admirers of Guehi, are also keen on Diomande, as are Manchester United. However, Crystal Palace seem to be leading the race after intensifying their interest in the last 48 hours.

Negotiations are ongoing, but a significant difference in valuation between the clubs needs to be resolved before any deal can be finalised.

Selling Guehi would certainly boost Palace’s transfer budget, although Liverpool have indicated they’re willing to wait a year to sign him on a free transfer if necessary.

The England international has also attracted attention from Arsenal and his former club Chelsea. However, Liverpool appear ready to step up their pursuit of Guehi, especially with Jarrell Quansah nearing a £35m move to Bayer Leverkusen.

The deal for the England U21 star is almost complete and is expected to involve an initial fee of £30m plus £5m in add-ons.

Liverpool manager Erik ten Hag has been eager to strengthen his defence and had previously considered Bournemouth’s rising star Dean Huijsen before the Spaniard chose to join Real Madrid in a £50m deal. Interest in Ajax’s Jorrel Hato is still active, particularly with Andy Robertson attracting strong interest from Atletico Madrid.

Hato, who is also on Chelsea and Arsenal’s radar, can play either at centre-back or left-back.

Ibrahima Konate is approaching the final year of his contract at Anfield, and despite anticipated negotiations for a renewal, there’s a strong possibility he could see out his current deal amidst interest from Real Madrid.

Liverpool are on track to confirm the signing of Florian Wirtz for a record-breaking £116.5m, with the player currently in the North West undergoing medical examinations, and Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez is expected to join him soon.

Tributes To Jota And Silva At Liverpool Friendly

Tributes To Jota And Silva At Liverpool Friendly

Liverpool players observe a minute’s silence for Diogo Jota and Andre Silva ahead of friendly match at Preston

Tributes have been paid to Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva at Liverpool’s first match since their death.

Portugal and Liverpool forward Jota and Silva, also a professional footballer, died in a car crash on 3 July in the Spanish province of Zamora.

Prior to the Reds’ first pre-season friendly at Preston North End, there were emotional renditions of Elvis Presley’s Can’t Help Falling in Love and Liverpool club anthem You’ll Never Walk Alone.

During the latter, a visibly emotional Preston captain Ben Whiteman laid a wreath in front of the travelling Liverpool supporters.

The away end, filled with flags and scarves commemorating the former Porto and Wolves attacker, loudly sang Jota’s song as the players walked out before an impeccably observed minute’s silence.

At the start of the 20th minute, the crowd burst into another rendition of Jota’s song.

There was a muted celebration when Conor Bradley opened the scoring for Liverpool, with the full-back looking up to the heavens as he walked back to his position.

Striker Darwin Nunez scored the Reds’ second and paid his own tribute by doing two of Jota’s celebrations in front of the Liverpool fans.

Cody Gakpo followed suit after adding the third in a 3-1 win and then held his fingers up to signal the number 20, Jota’s squad number at Liverpool.

The match programme had a black and white picture of Jota holding the Premier League trophy and featured tributes to the Liverpool player and his brother.

Liverpool have retired Jota’s number 20 shirt across all areas of the club, making the announcement at 20:20 BST on Friday.

In his first interview since Jota’s death, Liverpool head coach Arne Slot told Liverpool TV: “If we want to laugh, we laugh; if we want to cry, we’re going to cry.

“If they want to train they can train, if they don’t want to train they can not train. But be yourself, don’t think you have to be different than your emotions tell you.

“We will always carry him with us in our hearts, in our thoughts, wherever we go.”

Jota scored 65 goals in 182 appearances for Liverpool, helping them win the FA Cup and League Cup in 2022 and the Premier League title last season.

He played his final match for Portugal as they beat Spain in the final of the Nations League on 8 June. He scored 14 goals in 49 internationals.

The Guardia Civil told BBC Sport that Jota and his brother died after their car, a Lamborghini, left the road due to a tyre blowout while overtaking another vehicle.

The brothers had been heading to the Spanish port of Santander so Jota could return to Liverpool for pre-season training.

Tosin Focused On FIFA Club World Cup Final

Tosin Focused On FIFA Club World Cup Final

When Tosin Adarabioyo moved along the Thames to join Chelsea from Fulham in the summer of 2024, the defender issued the reasons explaining why he’d signed for the Blues.

Simply, he said he wanted to help the Blues move ‘in the direction we want to go’. To put it plainly, the defender wanted to add silverware to his CV.

Fast forward to May 2025 and Tosin was on the pitch in Wroclaw, Poland. A wide smile etched on his face, celebrating with his team-mates in front of the travelling Chelsea fans as we lifted the Conference League trophy. He’d delivered on his promise.

However, there’s still the opportunity for move silverware and as Tosin chats to us ahead of Sunday’s FIFA Club World Cup final, where we will face PSG, the defender is full of enthusiasm as he contemplates the thought of adding another trophy to his collection.

‘It’s fantastic to reach the final and we’re all looking forward to it,’ the Chelsea No.4 stated, with a beaming smile. ‘We’ve been focused throughout the tournament and we’ve got one huge game left to go now, which we’ll give our all for.

‘For us, it’s an amazing position to be in to play against teams all over the world. That’s what football’s about, bringing different countries all together and we’re happy to do that and be in the final.

‘This has been an amazing competition and it’s a big achievement for us to be in the final. But we know the work isn’t done yet and we’ll be giving it our all on Sunday.’

At 27, Tosin stands as one of the elder statesmen in Enzo Maresca’s squad. Saying that before he is even remotely close to hitting 30 feels slightly strange, but it’s a role the defender has embraced and understands he is required to be a ‘leader’ to his younger team-mates.

The former Fulham man has explained how he helps the other players in the squad, while also revealing one of the secrets to our success in the States – hard work combined with planned downtime and squad bonding.

‘It’s a strange one really!’ Tosin said of being one of the experienced heads in the dressing room. ‘I’m only 27, but I’m one of the most senior players in the team.

‘We’ve got a really talented young squad, with some amazing players and I just try to help and offer advice and guidance to the lads where I can.

‘Our minds have been set on getting to the final and the gaffer’s [Enzo Maresca] been great, giving us some downtime wherever we’ve been. We’ve done a lot of travelling in this tournament, so I think being able to do that has been really beneficial for us.

‘Joao’s settled in really well and we can see every day in training how talented he is.’

‘We’ve been able to have the right time to forget about football a little bit and just focus on enjoying our times together and that’s what we’ve done.’

Joao Pedro’s two goals in the semi-final against Fluminense on his full debut were what helped us secure our place in the final against the reigning Champions League holders, PSG, and Tosin spoke in glowing terms on how the Brazilian forward has settled in since completing his switch from Brighton.

‘Joao’s settled in really well and his two goals in the semi-final were both incredible,’ added the defender. ‘You can see that he’s got amazing quality and will really add something to the group.

‘We’re really pleased he’s here with us in America, helping the team and as I said he’s settled into the group so well already.’

With one step left to go, Tosin will hope victory on Sunday will ensure the celebrations in America eclipse those experienced in Poland.

Gunners Close In On Chelsea’s Madueke

Gunners Close In On Chelsea's Madueke

It is expected that England international Madueke will provide competition to Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli in Arsenal’s wide areas.

Chelsea forward Noni Madueke is on the brink of a £50million move to Arsenal – becoming Mikel Arteta’s fourth signing of the summer.

It is expected that England international Madueke will provide competition to Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli in Arsenal’s wide areas.

Madueke’s proposed move across London has been met with criticism by Arsenal supporters on social media.

However, the PA news agency has been told that a fee, which could exceed £50m with performance-related add-ons, has all but been agreed with Chelsea, while the 23-year-old is keen to make the move.

Madueke, who made the switch to Stamford Bridge from PSV Eindhoven in 2023, would follow Spain midfielder Martin Zubimendi and goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga – who also joined from Chelsea – and Christian Norgaard in moving to the Emirates this summer.

Madueke scored 11 times for Chelsea across all competitions last season and was rewarded with his first senior international appearances under England interim manager Lee Carsley and his permanent successor Thomas Tuchel.

Arsenal are still in the market for a new striker, with Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyokeres believed to be top of the list.

The PA news agency has approached Arsenal and Chelsea for comment.
