Tennis: Djokovic And Murray Have Parted Ways After Six Months

Andy Murray will no longer be working as Novak Djokovic’s coach.
The decision, said to be by mutual agreement, means Murray will not be by Djokovic’s side when he chases an eighth Wimbledon title in July.
Djokovic, a 24-time Grand Slam champion, joined forces with Murray in November.
Under Murray, the Serb reached the semi-finals of the Australian Open, ultimately retiring injured after losing the first set.
The 37-year-old has had a difficult season by his high standards, losing his first match in four of his past five tournaments, as well as being beaten in the Miami Open final by 19-year-old Jakub Mensik.
“Thank you, coach Andy, for all the hard work, fun and support over last six months on and off the court – really enjoyed deepening our friendship together,” Djokovic said.
“Thanks to Novak for the unbelievable opportunity to work together, and thanks to his team for all their hard work over the past six months,” Murray added.
“I wish Novak all the best for the rest of the season.”
For all the promise of Melbourne, the Murray-Djokovic partnership ultimately lasted only four tournaments.
Murray was present in Miami, where Djokovic reached the final without dropping a set before losing to Mensik in two close tie-breakers.
Djokovic has taken a wildcard into next week’s Geneva Open, having so far failed to win a match on clay this year.
The three-time French Open champion was beaten in the first round of the Monte Carlo Masters as the clay-court swing began and missed this month’s Italian Open without giving a reason for his absence.
Djokovic said in February that their arrangement was an indefinite one.
“We agreed we are going to work most likely in the [United] States and then some clay-court tournaments and see how it goes after that,” he said at the time.
That is as far as it went in the end – but it was fun, and quite enchanting, while it lasted.
Djokovic was very complimentary about three-time Slam winner Murray at the Australian Open, saying coaching comes naturally to him.
“I’m very pleasantly surprised with his dedication and professionalism, considering he’s never had the experience of working as a tennis coach,” he said in January.
“It comes natural to him. His IQ generally and tennis IQ is very high. He observes and speaks when is most important.
“I think he understands the moment when he needs to say something and what to say and what to ask.
“I must say at the beginning it was a bit of a strange feeling to be able to share the insights with him, not just about the game, but about how I feel, about life in general.
“Not in a negative way, but just in a way I have never done that with him because he was always one of my greatest rivals.”
Murray, 37, said he sometimes felt embarrassed by all the attention he was receiving in Melbourne, as Djokovic’s wider team had done an “incredible job over many, many years”.

Brazil sensationally wins their seventh Beach Soccer World Cup

The Brazilian Beach Soccer team earned a record-setting seventh World Cup title in the Seychelles on Sunday, securing the crown with a 4-3 win over Belarus at the Paradise Arena in Victoria.
The South American entity defended the World Cup crown they won in 2024 in a thrilling finale – Rodrigo notching a brace in addition to solo strikes from Lucão and Catarino. Brazil led 3-1 before the European side drew level with a pair of goals from Ihar Bryshtel, but it was Rodrigo who netted the winner with two minutes to spare.
Brazil are now the seven-time winners of the competition, winning over half of the 13 tournaments held to date.
It was somewhat of a procession for the reigning champions as they cantered through the group stage with wins over El Salvador (3-1), Italy (2-1) and Oman (11-1) before demolishing Spain (6-0) in the quarter-finals.
A 4-2 win over Portugal in the last four set up Brazil’s chance at a seventh World Cup crown. They are on a run of twelve unbeaten matches, having last lost a match at the Beach Soccer World Cup in 2021 against Senegal.
“The entire team deserves credit for their commitment, dedication and humility in respecting all their opponents. Today, Brazil has won another star and everyone deserves congratulations,” said player Mauricinho.
“This title is not just for the players, it is for all the Brazilian people who are there supporting us. Many people think that we only come for the World Cup, but we don’t. We work all year long, we are professionals, and we always try to give our best on the field (…) Brazil, seven-time champion!”
Portugal claimed the bronze medal with a 3-2 victory against African champions Senegal in the third-place playoff. Seychelles, the host for the tournament, exited in the group stage, failing to win a single match.

Rugby: Doris Faces Four To Six Months Out Through Injury

Caelan Doris sustained a shoulder injury in Leinster’s Champions Cup semi-final defeat by Northampton
Ireland captain Caelan Doris has been ruled out for a period of four to six months through injury, Leinster Rugby confirmed on Monday.
The 27-year-old sustained the injury in the Irish province’s Investec Champions Cup semi-final defeat to Northampton on 3 May.
Last week, Doris was left out of the British and Irish Lions squad for this summer’s tour of Australia by head coach Andy Farrell.
The back row could now also be a doubt for Ireland’s series of autumn matches against New Zealand, Japan, Australia and South Africa in November.
An update from Leinster read: “Caelan Doris had a procedure on Friday last week for a shoulder injury which will keep him out of action for between four to six months.”
Doris had been a frontrunner to be named captain for the Lions tour, a role which was given to England second row Maro Itoje.
Leinster team-mate Hugo Keenan said that the province are now even more determined to win the United Rugby Championship title for injured skipper Doris.
“We feel a bit more responsibility to do it for him and make sure that he is lifting that URC trophy up, it might be with one hand at the end of the season!” Keenan joked.
“It is a tough period for him, we can all say he was going to be on that Lions plane, but it is just unfortunate timing.”
