EXPOSED! ‘Super Eagles Players Vow To Boycotting Rwanda Clash Over Cash’

Top sources have told SCORENigeria that the Super Eagles had resolved to boycott Monday’s final 2025 AFCON qualifier against Rwanda to press home their disappointment over the monies they are yet to be paid by the NFF.

With a 2025 AFCON ticket safely in the bag, the players had planned to protest over the outstanding allowances and bonuses some dating as far as 2020 by staying away from the forthcoming home game.

It was learnt that it was only a heart-to-heart meeting with NFF president Ibrahim Gusau in Abidjan Thursday night that averted this pay strike.

The players, it was further gathered, were able to get some assurances from the NFF boss, who was taken aback by how they opened up to him on their outstanding payments.

Super Eagles Cry Out To NFF – You Have Failed To Motivate Us, Give Us Our Monies

Super Eagles Cry Out To NFF – You Have Failed To Motivate Us, Give Us Our Monies

According to SCORENigeria, senior players of the Super Eagles have opened up to NFF president Ibrahim Gusau – they have not received the necessary motivation to play for the team as they are owed a lot of monies and nothing is being done to clear these outstanding debts.

The players met with Gusau at the Novotel Hotel in Abidjan after they held Benin to a 1-1 draw and secured their qualification to the 2025 AFCON in Morocco.

The Super Eagles listed some of the monies they are yet to be paid by the NFF –

1)Outstanding bonuses and allowances dating back to 2022, which have been released by President Bola Tinubu to the NFF

2) Promises of houses by the Federal Government after they reached the 2023 AFCON final yet to be redeemed

3) No bonuses or camp allowances since the 2025 AFCON qualifiers began in September

4) Flight ticket refunds for recent Super Eagles games

One of the players who spoke at the meeting told the NFF president that the situation is so embarrassing to most of them that they no longer receive the usual camp allowances even if paid in Naira.

This has been the case since the 2025 AFCON qualifiers began in September.

The Super Eagles have therefore demanded a commitment from the NFF when all these monies will be paid.

This agitation is coming ahead of the resumption of crucial 2026 World Cup qualifiers in March.

Nigeria are in serious danger of missing out on the expanded 2026 World Cup even though Africa could be represented by as many as 10 teams at the global football showpiece.

They are second from bottom with three points after four rounds of matches, four points behind front runners Rwanda, South Africa and Benin.

Real Sociedad’s Umar Sadiq Attacked For Late Arrival To Super Eagles Camp

Real Sociedad’s Umar Sadiq Attacked For Late Arrival To Super Eagles Camp

Former Nigeria international Duke Udi has publicly criticised Umar Sadiq for arriving late to the Super Eagles camp ahead of their Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Real Sociedad forward, who has been struggling for form at his club, reported to camp on Wednesday morning, two days after most players had arrived.

Sadiq, named in Nigeria’s 23-man squad by caretaker coach Augustine Eguavoen, had not received a national team call-up since his appearance at the 2021 AFCON.

His inclusion sparked debates, with many questioning the decision to overlook in-form strikers like Cyriel Dessers of Rangers and Tolu Arokodare of Genk.

Speaking on Brila FM’s No Holds Barred with Ifeanyi Udeze, Udi expressed disappointment in Sadiq’s attitude and body language.

“Sadiq’s case seems to be one not wanting to represent the country, then you are calling the person. What do you expect?” he asked.

“He is a top professional and has made us proud, but I like players that can come out straight. If you don’t want to play, it’s fine—just say it. Don’t stroll into camp casually and disrespect the others who are fully committed.”

Udi also questioned the rationale behind Sadiq’s invitation, given his poor run at Real Sociedad.

“He is not going to play. I don’t even know why they invited him. He has issues with his club Real Sociedad and has not even been playing,” Udi added.

“Why add more pressure by inviting him to the national team only to sit on the bench? It’s unnecessary stress.”

Sadiq remained on the bench as Nigeria secured a 1-1 draw against Benin, with Victor Osimhen salvaging a point. The striker will hope to feature when the Super Eagles face Rwanda in Uyo on Monday.

Bafana Secure Ticket To Morocco – Without Kicking A Ball

Africa Cup of Nations qualifier

Moments after landing in Kampala yesterday, for today’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Uganda, Bafana Bafana learnt they have qualified for the continental finals taking place in Morocco next year.

Congo’s shock 2-3 defeat to South Sudan in Juba yesterday afternoon meant that Hugo Broos ‘steam secured their place at the Afcon finals with two games to spare.

Congo can only finish on a maximum of seven points if they win their last game at home on Tuesday against group leaders Uganda, who have also qualified, while Bafana are already on eight points before facing the Cranes today in Kampala (3pm).

Congo struck first via Christopher Ibayi in the 26th minute, before Ebon Wajo equalised for the host five minutes later. Ibayi would complete his brace 11 minuteslater, while Wajo responded by also slotting home his second of the day in stoppage time of the first half.

It was Data Elly’s 84th minute strike that ended Congo’s hopes of going to Morocco, giving less-fancied South Sudan their maiden win in this group after five games.

Having won bronze at last year’s Afcon in Ivory Coast, it’s the second time since 2000 (co-hosted by Ghana and Nigeria) and 2022 (in Mali) that Bafana qualify for Afcon back-to-back. In 2013 they qualified as hosts before also making the next finals in 2015, hosted in Equatorial Guinea.

With qualification now sealed, it remains to be seen if Bafana coach Hugo Broos will give more fringe players a chance today in Kampala and against South Sudan in Cape Town on Tuesday.

Bafana join Morocco, Egypt, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, Angola, Ivory Coast, DR Congo, Cameroon, Burkina Faso and Senegal who have already qualified.

Broos, meanwhile, had shown confidence they would overcome the Ugandan Cranes even without some of the side’s instrumental offensive personnel, such as Percy Tau, Themba Zwane and Lyle Foster.

While Zwane and Foster are sidelined by injuries, Broos omitted Tau, citing his lack of game time at his Egyptian club, Al Ahly. Mamelodi Sundowns’ Iqraam Rayners is expected to spearhead Bafana’s attack this afternoon, while Evidence Makgopa of Orlando Pirates is also expected to play a role as Broos’ attacking option.

“We have a great loss with Zwane and Foster, those were players who were important for Bafana. On the other hand, I am confident with the players in the group now. It’s not good that we talk about those who are not here because of injuries,” Broos said.

“When I see this guy next to me [pointing at Makgopa before patting him on the shoulders], when we went to Afcon everybody was laughing at me… ‘Haha, what is he going to do with Makgopa in Afcon?’ I have confidence in the players that are here now.”
