Ademola Lookman Set For Atalanta Exit As Atletico Madrid Circle After Price Drop
Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman could finally be on his way out of Atalanta after the Italian club agreed to significantly lower their asking price, opening the door for a potential summer move.
Spanish giants Atlético Madrid have now emerged as leading contenders for the Nigerian star, following his standout performances at the recently concluded AFCON in Morocco.
Atletico Madrid Move Gains Momentum
According to respected transfer expert Ekrem Konur, Atalanta have reduced Lookman’s valuation to €35 million, a sharp drop from the €50 million-plus fee that previously stalled interest from Inter Milan last summer.
The decision reflects Atalanta’s willingness to negotiate, especially after Lookman reportedly reiterated his desire to leave the club. With his contract running until 2027, the Bergamo side are keen to avoid a scenario where his market value begins to decline.
AFCON Brilliance Boosts Market Value
Lookman was one of Nigeria’s most influential players at AFCON 2025, serving as the team’s creative engine en route to a bronze-medal finish in Morocco.
Despite a season disrupted by transfer speculation, his reputation as a big-game player remains intact. During his time at Atalanta, Lookman has recorded 55 goals and 27 assists in 136 appearances, elite numbers that underline his consistency at the highest level.
He further cemented his legacy by winning the 2024 CAF Player of the Year award, highlighted by a historic Europa League final hat-trick that sealed Atalanta’s continental triumph.
Simeone Sees Lookman As The Missing Spark
Atlético Madrid manager Diego Simeone is reportedly a long-term admirer of the 28-year-old and believes Lookman’s direct running, pressing intensity, and tactical versatility make him a perfect fit for his system.
Capable of operating as a second striker or on either wing, Lookman is viewed as the attacking spark Atlético need to refresh their forward options and add unpredictability to their play.
Competition From Turkey Remains
While Atlético Madrid currently lead the race, Turkish giants Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe remain interested. Galatasaray, in particular, are said to have received encouragement from Victor Osimhen, who has played a key role in trying to lure his international teammate to Istanbul.
However, La Liga’s tactical appeal and Champions League pedigree could give Atlético the edge.
Current Form And What’s Next
In the ongoing 2025/26 season, Lookman has gradually rediscovered his rhythm, registering 6 goals and 6 assists for club and country. His recent Champions League displays and AFCON performances suggest he is ready for a fresh challenge at the highest level.
With Atalanta now open to negotiation, the coming weeks could finally deliver clarity on one of the most talked-about transfer sagas involving a Nigerian star.
