Enzo Maresca Shuts Down Manchester City Links As Chelsea Focus Remains Firm
Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca has firmly shut down rumours linking him with a potential move to Manchester City, making it clear that his full attention remains on his project at Stamford Bridge.
The Italian tactician, who has been widely praised for Chelsea’s improved structure and identity this season, addressed the speculation ahead of the Blues’ Premier League showdown with Newcastle United this weekend.
What Enzo Maresca Said
Speaking calmly but decisively, Maresca made it clear that transfer gossip and managerial rumours do not distract him from the task at hand.
“It doesn’t affect me because I know it is 100 per cent speculation and I don’t have time for these things,” Maresca said.
“I have a contract here until 2029. My focus is just on this club, and I am proud to be here. One week ago in Italy, it was the same with Juventus. I don’t pay attention to it.”
The Chelsea boss emphasized that the immediate priority is on-pitch performance, especially with a demanding fixture against Newcastle looming.
“The Newcastle game is important and very difficult.”
Why The Manchester City Rumours Emerged
According to reports from The Athletic, Manchester City are believed to be drawing up a shortlist of potential successors for Pep Guardiola, whose long-term future at the Etihad Stadium has been the subject of growing speculation.
Maresca’s name reportedly featured among the candidates, largely due to his tactical philosophy, positional play, and prior experience within the City Football Group ecosystem.
However, while the reports triggered concern among some Chelsea supporters, Maresca’s response has gone a long way in calming nerves. His public commitment reinforces the idea that Chelsea are central to his long-term vision.
Chelsea Fans Can Breathe Easy
For now, Chelsea remain firmly Maresca’s priority. His contract until 2029, combined with his clear and composed dismissal of external links, sends a strong message of stability and intent.
As the Blues prepare for a critical run of fixtures, Maresca’s words underline one thing: the project at Stamford Bridge is far from finished, and he plans to see it through.
