Robert Lewandowski Suffers Hamstring Injury, Doubtful For El Clasico Clash Against Real Madrid
Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski has been ruled out of this weekend’s La Liga clash against Girona after sustaining a hamstring injury during international duty with Poland.
The 37-year-old forward, who scored in Poland’s 2-0 World Cup qualifying win over Lithuania, could also miss Barcelona’s blockbuster encounter with Real Madrid later this month.
In an official club statement, Barcelona confirmed:
“Robert Lewandowski has suffered a hamstring injury in his left thigh. He will be sidelined, and his recovery time will depend on how the injury progresses.”
Spanish media reports suggest the veteran striker could be out for up to four weeks, putting his participation in El Clasico on October 26 in serious doubt.
Lewandowski has been a key figure for Barcelona this season, netting four goals in nine appearances across all competitions. His absence adds to the growing injury list at the Catalan club, which already includes Raphinha, Gavi, Dani Olmo, Marc-André ter Stegen, and Joan Garcia.
On a positive note, Lamine Yamal and Fermin Lopez have returned to training, offering some relief to manager Xavi Hernandez ahead of crucial fixtures against Olympiakos in the Champions League and Real Madrid in La Liga.
