Brown Ideye Says Super Eagles Still Searching For Perfect Partner For Osimhen

Victor Osimhen celebrates after scoring for Nigeria against Benin in the World Cup qualifier.

Former Nigeria international Brown Ideye believes the Super Eagles are still struggling to find the perfect attacking partner for star forward Victor Osimhen.

Nigeria’s recent 2-1 victory over Lesotho in the FIFA World Cup qualifiers brought relief, but also raised familiar questions about the team’s attacking chemistry.

During the match, Tolu Arokodare started alongside the Napoli striker, while Akor Adams came off the bench to score Nigeria’s second goal. Despite the win, Osimhen seemed disconnected from his strike partners for most of the game.

Speaking as a pundit on SuperSport, Ideye highlighted that while Nigeria boasts impressive attacking options, finding the right partner for Osimhen remains a challenge.

“Osimhen for sure needs someone to play with him,” Ideye said. “Watching Tolu in the first half and Akor in the few minutes that he played, we are still looking for the balance for the partnership between any one of them and Osimhen.”

Drawing from his own experience playing alongside Emmanuel Emenike during Nigeria’s 2013 AFCON triumph, Ideye emphasized that good chemistry up front is vital for success.

As Nigeria sits third in Group C, the pressure is mounting ahead of their crucial qualifier against Benin on Tuesday. A win is non-negotiable, and the Super Eagles will also be counting on South Africa to drop points against Rwanda to boost their qualification hopes.

Can the Super Eagles finally unlock the right combination for Osimhen? The next match might give fans an answer.
