Chelsea Get Caicedo Injury Boost For Club World Cup Final
Moises Caicedo took part in team training on Thursday with hope he will be available for Chelsea’s Club World Cup final against Paris Saint-Germain.
The Blues booked their place in Sunday’s final with a comfortable 2-0 win over Fluminense in their semi-final clash on Tuesday night with Joao Pedro scoring two stunning goals on his full debut.
Enzo Maresca’s side must now find a way to contain European Champions Paris Saint-Germain.
Less than five weeks after demolishing Inter Milan in the Champions League final, Luis Enrique’s side dismantled another European giant in Real Madrid, thrashing Los Blancos 4-0 on Wednesday.
There was concern for Caicedo late on against Fluminense after he suffered an ankle injury in the closing stages of the match.
The 23-year-old received treatment on the pitch and initially attempted to see out the remainder of the game before coming off.
The knock has raised concerns the midfielder could miss out when Chelsea take on PSG in New Jersey on Sunday evening but Caicedo was back training alongside his teammates on Thursday afternoon.
Enzo Maresca was hopeful his player has avoided a serious injury when he provided an update on Tuesday night.
‘When it happened I told him, because there just two or three minutes to go, I told him we could play with 10 players, the important thing was to not make it worse because we have a game on Sunday.
‘But he felt that he could try, but he tried and he felt pain.
‘Hopefully he can be fit on Sunday, we will see.’
Should he be passed fit, Caicedo will be tasked with locking down perhaps the best midfield in Europe with Joao Neves, Vitinha and Fabian Ruiz dominating last season.
Caicedo himself wants to be recognised himself as one of the best in the world but insists he is not at that level yet.
‘I am working on that. I want to become one of the best midfielders in the world but I am too far right now,’ Caicedo said.
‘I am working hard every day and want to show it on the pitch.
‘I want to talk on the pitch, showing my great football and the people can talk about me.’
