Super Eagles’ Ogbu Reveals Reason For Slavia Loyalty
Super Eagles defender Igoh Ogbu has been linked with some big clubs in recent months following his impressive performances for Slavia Prague, but he made a move that surprised many Nigerian football fans last month, according to Soccernet.ng.
Ogbu has been one of the best players at Slavia Prague for the last three seasons. He has become a mainstay at the back for the club.
Ogbu has helped them win the Czech Liga and the Czech Cup. His performances also earned him a Super Eagles invite last season.
Top clubs abroad like Besiktas, Fenerbahce, and Lyon have been linked with the Super Eagles star in recent months, but Ogbu made a surprise move by signing a contract extension that will keep him at Slavia Prague until 2027.
Nonetheless, the 25-year-old center-back has opened up on his transfer situation. He stated that he chose to pen a new deal due to his belief in the club’s ideal and possible UEFA Champions League football next season.
“For me, extending my contract is a good decision and I believe it’s the best one because I understand the system and the philosophy here,” Ogbu told Footy Africa.
“I will also be able to play in the Champions League, which is something I’ve always wanted. That’s why I decided to stay for a while before making the next step. For me, it’s the right choice.”
Next season likely Igoh Ogbu’s last at Slavia Prague
Although Igoh Ogbu’s decision to sign an extension was surprising, it is still understandable. He wants to stay at Slavia Prague, improve, rub shoulders with better players, and possibly get more offers at the end of next season.
If Ogbu has a strong campaign with Slavia Prague next season, he will likely earn a better move. He is currently valued at €11 million on Transfermarkt. But if he continues to perform well, that will increase significantly.
