Man United reject West Ham’s offers to sign Maguire, McTominay
According to a report by 90min, Manchester United have rejected offers from West Ham United for the services of Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay.
The Hammers are keen on bolstering their squad before the end of the transfer window. They are looking to add more quality to their midfield and defence and have their eyes set on the Manchester United duo.
The Red Devils have already spent a significant amount on player transfer in the ongoing transfer window. They have acquired the services of Andre Onana, Mason Mount and Rasmus Hojlund. While these signings will surely bolster their squad, they have cost them well over £100 million.
Manchester United are thus now looking to raise funds by offloading players. Erik ten Hag still feels the need for a few more signings that would only be possible if they manage to sell players. As a result, they are ready to part ways with Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay.
The duo has fallen down the pecking order under the Dutch manager. Maguire has been stripped of captaincy and he is unlikely to have enough game time in the 2023/24 season. Meanwhile, Mount’s arrival means McTominay is no longer needed.
Ten Hag has informed the duo to look for options elsewhere. While Manchester United are ready to sell them, they are not ready to lower their asking price. Meanwhile, West Ham have been interested in Maguire for a while now. They submitted an initial offer of £20 million back in the day for the England international but United rejected it.
Now, the Hammers have submitted an improved offer of £30 million but even that is not good enough. Along with the second offer for Maguire, West Ham also tabled a bid worth £30 million for McTominay. They are keen on reinforcing their midfield after having sold Declan Rice to Arsenal. And, the London club are pushing for the services of a 26-year-old.
In total, it was a £60 million offer for the duo, but the Red Devils have turned it down. According to the report, the bid was close to Manchester United’s valuation, but the overall package wasn’t good enough. The Hammers might try again to sign him but the major hurdle is that neither player is keen on making the move.
