Manchester City have confirmed an agreement with Nottingham Forest to sign Elliot Anderson, with the England international set to complete his blockbuster move once his World Cup campaign comes to an end.
The 23-year-old midfielder has already completed his medical in the United States, clearing one of the final hurdles before officially becoming a City player.
With Anderson currently representing England at the World Cup, City worked around the tournament schedule to progress the deal.
The Premier League champions confirmed the midfielder underwent his medical in Kansas while away with the Three Lions, allowing the transfer to move forward despite his international commitments.
Although the agreement between the clubs is now in place, the remaining paperwork and official unveiling will be completed once Anderson returns to England following the World Cup.
Manchester City also wished Anderson well as he continues his international campaign before linking up with his new club.
The club said in a statement:
“In the meantime, everyone at Manchester City wishes Elliot and the England squad the very best of luck in their World Cup campaign and we look forward to welcoming him to Manchester in due course.”
The move represents another major addition as City continue strengthening their squad ahead of the new campaign.
The arrival of Anderson will provide additional energy and versatility in City’s midfield following his outstanding performances for Nottingham Forest.
The England international has developed into one of the Premier League’s most complete young midfielders, combining relentless work rate with technical quality and tactical intelligence.
His ability to operate in both defensive and advanced midfield roles makes him an ideal fit for City’s possession-based style.
City’s reported £116 million investment underlines Anderson’s rapid rise over the past two seasons.
After struggling to make a significant attacking impact during his early senior career at Newcastle United, the midfielder flourished following his move to Nottingham Forest, becoming one of the club’s standout performers.
He scored six goals in 92 appearances for Forest while establishing himself as a regular in England’s senior squad.
That form has continued on the biggest stage, with Anderson starting every World Cup match for the Three Lions, including their hard-fought 2-1 victory over DR Congo in the Round of 32.
Once England’s World Cup journey concludes, Anderson is expected to travel to Manchester to complete the final formalities before beginning the next chapter of his career at the Etihad Stadium.
