PSG and Liverpool target Maghnes Akliouche confirms he wants summer transfer after France World Cup campaign

PSG and Liverpool target Maghnes Akliouche confirms he wants summer transfer after France World Cup campaign

Monaco star Maghnes Akliouche has effectively confirmed that he expects to leave the club this summer, with the highly-rated French midfielder admitting that a transfer is the natural next step in his career.

The 24-year-old has emerged as one of Ligue 1’s most exciting talents and is attracting serious interest from Paris Saint-Germain, Liverpool, and Manchester City following an impressive campaign in the Principality.

Akliouche opens the door to summer exit

After months of speculation, Akliouche has publicly acknowledged that his future likely lies away from the Stade Louis II.

The creative playmaker enjoyed a breakthrough 2025-26 season, registering six goals and establishing himself as one of Monaco’s most influential attacking players.

Speaking to Nice-Matin before departing for the United States with France’s World Cup squad, Akliouche admitted a summer move is firmly on the agenda.

Asked whether the next stage of his career would involve a transfer, he replied: “Will the next step be a transfer this summer? Yes, but frankly, I’m really focused on this World Cup.”

World Cup remains the priority

Despite confirming his openness to a move, Akliouche insists his attention remains fixed on helping France succeed on the biggest stage.

The midfielder is aware that strong performances during the tournament could further enhance his reputation and potentially increase the number of clubs interested in securing his signature.

“I know anything can happen, even during the competition,” he explained.

“It’s a great opportunity for exposure, but I’m staying focused on the national team’s objectives. I don’t want to disrespect my club by talking about the transfer window now either. There are other things to deal with.”

PSG and Liverpool leading the race

French champions PSG have tracked Akliouche for some time as part of their ongoing strategy of recruiting the country’s most promising young talents.

However, the Parisians face significant competition from abroad.

Liverpool are understood to be monitoring the situation closely as they continue to refresh their attacking options, while Manchester City have also maintained interest in the versatile midfielder.

Akliouche’s ability to operate centrally, on either wing, or behind the striker has made him an attractive proposition for several of Europe’s elite clubs.

Monaco demand premium fee

Monaco are under no immediate pressure to sell but recognise that this summer could represent the ideal moment to maximise the player’s market value.

Reports in France suggest the Ligue 1 side would be willing to sanction a transfer if their valuation is met, with interested clubs expected to pay around €50 million (£43m) to secure a deal.

Given the level of interest across Europe and Akliouche’s own admission regarding his future, Monaco may now be preparing for life without one of their brightest stars.

Transfer battle set to intensify

With France’s World Cup campaign now concluded, attention is likely to shift quickly towards Akliouche’s next destination.

PSG can offer the chance to remain in Ligue 1 and compete regularly for domestic honours, while Liverpool and Manchester City provide the attraction of Premier League football and the opportunity to compete for the biggest trophies in Europe.

One thing now appears increasingly certain: Akliouche’s future is unlikely to remain in Monaco beyond this summer.
