RB Leipzig star Yan Diomande drops major PSG hint as Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah replacement plan takes hit
Liverpool’s hopes of landing one of Europe’s most exciting young talents have suffered a significant setback after RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande openly admitted that Paris Saint-Germain has always been his dream club.
The 19-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to Anfield as the Reds prepare for life after Mohamed Salah, but his latest comments suggest the French champions may hold a decisive advantage in the race for his signature.
Diomande reveals lifelong PSG connection
Diomande’s future has become one of the most closely watched transfer stories of the summer following a breakthrough campaign in Germany.
While speculation continues to intensify around his next move, the teenager has now offered a major clue regarding his preferred destination.
Speaking about his future, Diomande acknowledged his affection for PSG and revealed the influence his family had on his support for the club growing up.
“My future? I have a team that takes care of that,” Diomande said.
“I try to stay as focused as possible. I’ve loved PSG since I was little. I think my father was a PSG supporter.”
“But I’m not thinking about the future. I’m staying focused on the World Cup. We’ll see what happens after that.”
Liverpool face growing challenge
The comments are unlikely to be welcomed at Anfield.
Liverpool have reportedly identified Diomande as one of the leading candidates to help fill the void left by Salah’s departure, with the teenager emerging as one of the Bundesliga’s most exciting attacking talents.
His outstanding 2025-26 campaign saw him register 20 goal contributions in 33 league appearances while establishing himself as one of Europe’s most dangerous dribblers.
Diomande completed a league-high 118 successful dribbles during the season, showcasing the directness, pace and creativity that have attracted attention from several elite clubs.
PSG move gathering momentum
The French champions appear increasingly confident of winning the race for the winger.
Reports have suggested PSG have already made significant progress behind the scenes, with discussions between the club and the player’s camp moving in a positive direction.
Diomande’s public admission of his admiration for the Ligue 1 giants will only strengthen belief in Paris that a deal can be completed before rival suitors make their move.
For Liverpool, the situation is becoming increasingly complicated as personal preference threatens to outweigh Premier League interest.
Anfield facing major rebuild
Missing out on Diomande would add to an already challenging summer for Liverpool.
The club is preparing for a significant transition period following several high-profile departures, forcing recruitment staff to accelerate plans for a squad rebuild.
The need for attacking reinforcements has become even more pressing following Salah’s confirmed exit, while defensive concerns have also emerged.
France international Ibrahima Konate is reportedly edging closer to a move away from Merseyside, with Real Madrid heavily linked, while experienced left-back Andrew Robertson is also set to depart.
World Cup focus remains priority
For now, Diomande is determined to keep his attention firmly on international duty.
The winger is expected to be one of the breakout stars of the World Cup, and a strong tournament could further increase both his market value and the number of clubs competing for his signature.
However, based on his latest comments, PSG may already hold the most important advantage of all — the player’s heart.
With Liverpool, PSG and several other European heavyweights monitoring developments closely, Diomande’s future looks set to become one of the defining transfer sagas of the summer.
