Arsenal defender Riccardo Calafiori has shared an emotional behind-the-scenes account of the moment the Gunners finally secured the 2025-26 Premier League title.
After years of heartbreak and near misses, Arsenal ended their 22-year wait for league glory when Manchester City were held to a dramatic 1-1 draw away to Bournemouth.
For the Arsenal squad, that final whistle triggered unforgettable scenes.
Speaking to la Repubblica, Calafiori described the incredible emotions inside the dressing room as the title became official.
The Italian international said:
“Winning the Premier League was one of my childhood dreams. And it was incredible, considering how the season went.”
He then revealed the exact moment the celebrations erupted:
“The best moment was the final whistle of the Bournemouth-Manchester City match. We all exploded: the staff, the players. We were all together, wishing each other well. We felt lighter.”
The defender admitted the achievement carried enormous emotional weight because of Arsenal’s long wait to reclaim the English crown.
“The title had been missing for 22 years. Wandering around the city, I realised how important it was for the fans and the people.”
Calafiori also praised Mikel Arteta for the confidence he showed in him from the very beginning.
The defender joined Arsenal looking to challenge himself outside Italy and admitted adapting to English football was far from easy.
He explained:
“At the start of the season, speaking with Arteta, I realised how much he believed in me. It wasn’t a given, I didn’t even expect it.”
“I came here to get out of my comfort zone. Adapting wasn’t easy; it’s a complicated league.”
Despite the challenges, Calafiori encouraged more young Italian players to test themselves in England.
One of the biggest themes of Arsenal’s title-winning campaign has been patience and long-term planning.
Arteta took charge back in 2019 and endured multiple painful runner-up finishes before finally delivering the club’s first Premier League trophy since the legendary Invincibles era.
Calafiori believes that trust from the club hierarchy was crucial.
“If there’s such great chemistry at Arsenal, it’s thanks to Arteta, but also to the club that knew how to wait.”
He also highlighted one of the major differences between English football and Serie A:
“In Italy, it’s unthinkable to give time to a manager who doesn’t win straight away.”
While Arsenal fans are still celebrating their domestic triumph, attention has already shifted toward another huge opportunity.
The Gunners are now preparing for a massive UEFA Champions League Final showdown against Paris Saint-Germain this weekend.
A victory would complete one of the greatest seasons in Arsenal’s modern history and firmly establish Arteta’s side among Europe’s elite once again.
From years of frustration to emotional celebrations across north London, Arsenal’s title success has completely transformed the mood around the club.
For players like Calafiori, the journey has been even more special because it came after so many setbacks and doubts.
And judging by his emotional recollection, the moment Manchester City slipped at Bournemouth may live forever in Arsenal folklore.
