Liam Delap Joins Nottingham Forest From Chelsea in £50m Transfer

Nottingham Forest Complete £50m Signing of Liam Delap From Chelsea

Nottingham Forest have completed the signing of Liam Delap from Chelsea in a deal worth up to £50 million, with the striker signing a five-year contract that will keep him at the City Ground until 2031.

The deal is worth an initial £45 million, with a further £5 million available in add-ons.

For Forest, it is a major statement of intent as they look to strengthen their attack and establish themselves among the Premier League’s top clubs.

Forest beat competition for Delap

The 23-year-old forward spent just one season at Chelsea after joining the Blues from Ipswich Town for around £30 million in June 2025.

However, opportunities to establish himself as a regular starter at Stamford Bridge were limited.

Chelsea have now secured an immediate profit of around £20 million on the striker, while Forest have handed Delap the opportunity to become a key figure in their attack.

Delap looking for a fresh start

Delap’s first season at Chelsea did not produce the numbers many expected.

He scored just one Premier League goal, but his previous campaign at Ipswich showed why he remains highly regarded.

During the 2024–25 Premier League season, Delap scored 12 league goals despite Ipswich being relegated.

His combination of pace, physical strength and aggressive ball-carrying made him one of the more dangerous young forwards in the division.

He also recorded 26 shot-ending carries, the highest tally among Premier League strikers that season.

Now, Forest are hoping that a bigger role and consistent playing time can bring out the best in him.

Delap excited by Forest move

Delap has already made it clear that he is excited about the move and believes the club’s manager can help take his game to another level.

He also highlighted the atmosphere at the City Ground and Forest’s ambition to compete near the top of the Premier League.

The pressure will now be on Delap to turn that excitement into goals.

A £50 million price tag comes with expectations — and Liam Delap has another chance to prove he belongs among the Premier League’s best young strikers.
