Jannik Sinner Starts ATP Finals Title Defence In Style With Win Over Auger-Aliassime

Italian tennis star Jannik Sinner has begun his ATP Finals title defence in Turin with a commanding victory over Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime, thrilling his home fans and strengthening his bid for the world number one ranking.

Sinner, the second seed, was nearly untouchable on serve in a 7-5, 6-1 win, clinching his 27th consecutive victory on indoor hard courts. The match highlighted his ruthless efficiency and calm composure — qualities that have defined his season.

A battle cut short by injury

Auger-Aliassime, the eighth seed, matched Sinner’s power and precision for much of the first set. He pushed the Italian to the limit, coming within two points of forcing a tiebreak. Unfortunately, a left calf injury at 6-5, 30-0 halted his momentum completely.
He called for the physiotherapist twice in the second set, but his movement was severely restricted, allowing Sinner to cruise to victory.

In the Jimmy Connors Group, American Taylor Fritz was equally impressive, defeating Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti 6-3, 6-4. Fritz, runner-up last year, dropped just three points on serve in the second set.

Musetti, who only secured his place after Novak Djokovic withdrew following his Athens Open victory, showed early promise but struggled to convert his break chances. Fatigue eventually set in as Fritz found his rhythm.

Doubles action

In doubles, British stars Joe Salisbury and Neal Skupski made a strong start, defeating Marcelo Arevalo and Mate Pavic 6-3, 7-5.
Fellow Brit Henry Patten and partner Harri Heliovaara also triumphed, taking down Americans Christian Harrison and Evan King 6-4, 6-4.
