Revealed: Ruben Amorim And Diogo Dalot Are Surprisingly Related In The Most Random Way Imaginable

In one of football’s most unexpected discoveries, Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim and Portuguese defender Diogo Dalot have been revealed to share family ties dating back generations — all thanks to a circus performer ancestor.

According to Portuguese genealogical site Geneall, the two are great-great-grandsons of Carlos Dallot, a French-born circus artist who eventually settled in Portugal after touring Europe with his siblings, José and Julia.

The revelation, later confirmed by The Sun, means that Amorim and Dalot are distant cousins, bonded by both football and family lineage.

From Circus Roots To The Theatre Of Dreams

Carlos Dallot’s story adds a remarkable twist to United’s dressing room dynamic. Born in France, he reportedly traveled the continent as a performer before putting down roots in Braga, the birthplace of Dalot.

Dalot has previously mentioned his family’s French origins, but few could have predicted that one of those ancestral links would connect him directly to his current manager.

Now, beyond their professional bond on the pitch, Dalot can quite literally call Amorim family.

Amorim On Dalot: Tactical Praise And Honest Critique

Since taking charge at Old Trafford, Amorim has heavily relied on the 26-year-old full-back, who has featured in 39 of the manager’s 54 games so far.

However, Amorim hasn’t shied away from tactical honesty when assessing Dalot’s performances.

“If you see Dalot, many times he has the ball with space to make the cross, but he’s a right-footer, he’s always inside without space,” Amorim explained after the 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest.
“When you have the ball, go to the side and cross. The space is there.”

Even in critique, there’s a tone of familiarity — perhaps now, we know why.

Dalot: Amorim’s Biggest Believer

The revelation of their distant kinship only deepens the connection between two of United’s most composed figures.

During one of United’s toughest spells last season, Dalot publicly defended Amorim, calling him the man capable of bringing the Premier League title back to Old Trafford.

“If you want me to be completely honest, with this manager, I think we can win a Premier League,” Dalot said.
“He just needs time. The way he communicates with players and the ideas he brings… we can win big trophies with him.”

That level of faith makes even more sense now that we know they share more than just nationality — they share bloodlines.

Family, Football, And The Future

Under Amorim’s guidance, United have shown signs of resurgence, climbing back up the Premier League table and rediscovering belief in their project.

As Amorim continues to instill his attacking, disciplined philosophy, Dalot remains one of his most trusted lieutenants, operating as both right and left wing-back with versatility and consistency.

Now that this unexpected family bond has been revealed, fans can’t help but imagine that the “United family” at Old Trafford is more literal than anyone thought.

Bilic returns to the national team after more than a decade away, ending a two-year absence from management as he begins a second spell in charge of his country. ## Bilic begins a second spell with Croatia The Croatian Football Federation (HNS) announced Bilic’s appointment after the Executive Committee unanimously approved the recommendation of federation president Marijan Kustic. Bilic previously managed Croatia between 2006 and 2012, guiding the national team through two European Championships before embarking on a successful club coaching career that included spells with West Ham United, West Bromwich Albion, Besiktas and Al-Ittihad. The federation believes his experience and deep understanding of Croatian football make him the ideal candidate to lead the next generation. ## Huge task replacing Zlatko Dalic Bilic succeeds one of the most successful managers in Croatia’s history. Dalic stepped down after the 2026 World Cup, bringing an end to a remarkable tenure that included a World Cup final, a World Cup semi-final and several memorable tournament campaigns. Federation president Marijan Kustic acknowledged the size of the challenge but expressed complete confidence in Bilic. > “I would like to once again thank Zlatko for the exceptional results he achieved during his tenure. It is not easy to follow in his footsteps, but we are convinced Slaven is the right person for this role.” Kustic added that Bilic’s international pedigree and extensive coaching experience were decisive factors behind the appointment. ## Bilic honoured to return Bilic described his return as the greatest honour of his coaching career and admitted he understands the expectations that come with leading one of international football’s most consistent tournament teams. > “I would like to thank President Kustic and the Federation’s leadership for the confidence they have shown in allowing me to lead the Croatian national team once again — the greatest honour for any Croatian coach.” The 57-year-old also praised the standards established under Dalic while insisting he is ready for the responsibility. > “I am fully aware of the high expectations that follow such a remarkable period under Zlatko Dalic, but anyone who takes charge of Croatia must be prepared for that because we are a football nation that lives and breathes its national team.” ## A new chapter begins Bilic now faces the task of building on Dalic’s legacy while preparing Croatia for the next international cycle. With a blend of experienced stars and emerging young talent at his disposal, Croatia will hope their returning manager can guide them to another successful era on the international stage.
