Lesotho Captain Moerane: “We’re Not Afraid Of Super Eagles” Ahead Of World Cup Qualifier

The Crocodiles of Lesotho are bracing themselves for a fierce test against the Super Eagles of Nigeria in tonight’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matchday nine clash at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium, Polokwane.

The two nations played out a 1-1 draw in their opening group fixture back in November 2023 at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo. While Nigeria are overwhelming favourites on paper, Lesotho’s captain Sekhoane Moerane insists his side is coming into the tie with no fear.

Moerane: Respect Without Fear

Speaking to the media ahead of the game, Moerane stressed the importance of belief and national pride:

“Going into tomorrow’s game, we are not going to show fear because one thing we have to do, is not to fear our opponents but we should give them respect. We will be going with a lot of respect but not showing fear and that simply means we are going to give them the best of what we have.

We are not doing anyone a favour but playing for our country, playing for Basotho.”

The Super Eagles, three-time African champions, boast world-class stars playing across Europe and are heavily backed to take all three points. However, Lesotho’s resilience and determination could make the game more competitive than many expect.
