Manchester United Reach Preliminary Agreement For Colombian Teenage Star Cristian Orozco
Manchester United’s global talent hunt shows no signs of slowing down as the club has reached a preliminary agreement to sign 17-year-old midfielder Cristian Orozco, reports the Manchester Evening News.
The highly-rated Colombian, who currently plays for Fortaleza CEIF, will remain with the club until he turns 18 next year. His move to Old Trafford is expected to be finalized in July 2026.
A Leader For Colombia’s U17s
Orozco has already built a reputation as a natural leader. The defensive midfielder captained Colombia’s Under-17 side during the U17 South American Championship, helping his nation reach the final earlier this year. Scouts believe he has the potential to break into senior first-team football in the near future.
United’s Second Teenage Capture In 24 Hours
The agreement for Orozco comes less than 24 hours after United accelerated talks to sign another 17-year-old—Mouhamed Dabo, the captain of Senegal’s U17 side.
Dabo, who plays for Be Sport Academy (an institution with previous ties to Barcelona), recently completed a trial at Carrington and impressed United’s coaching staff. According to Africa Foot, a deal is now close.
A Strategy Shaped By Brexit Rules
Manchester United have intensified their search for young prospects outside Europe due to Brexit restrictions, which limit their ability to sign teenagers from European clubs. This has led to a broader scouting focus across South America and Africa.
Earlier this year, United agreed a £3.3m deal (potentially rising to £7m) for Paraguayan midfielder Diego Leon from Cerro Porteño. Leon has already trained with the senior squad and is regarded as one of the brightest additions to the youth setup.
Following The Garnacho Blueprint
United’s academy recruitment has been a vital part of their long-term strategy. The success of players like Alejandro Garnacho, who arrived from Atlético Madrid at 16 before earning a major move to Chelsea this summer, proves how early investment in youth can pay off both on the pitch and financially.
With Orozco, Dabo, and Leon all lined up, United are clearly laying the foundation for the next generation of talent at Old Trafford.
