Leipzig To Profit From Lookman’s Potential Inter Move
RB Leipzig could profit handsomely if Ademola Lookman secures his desired transfer from Atalanta to Inter Milan, thanks to a savvy sell-on clause included in his 2022 move to the Italian club.
Lookman, who scored 20 goals and added six assists for Atalanta last season has made it clear he wants a new challenge in Serie A, with Inter Milan his preferred destination.
The 27-year-old Nigerian winger has already given the green light to personal terms with Inter, and the Nerazzurri have tabled a €42 million bid, with an additional €3 million in bonuses. Lookman even reportedly rejected a fresh contract offer with improved salary from Atalanta
Negotiations, however, have hit a temporary impasse. Atalanta have yet to officially respond, with several sources citing the lack of a publicly declared asking price and internal debate over the player’s value.
Complicating matters is a 15% sell-on clause agreed with RB Leipzig when Lookman moved to Bergamo for €15 million, according to Passione Calcio.
Any profit from a future sale must see Leipzig compensated, thus potentially making Atalanta more reluctant to accept Inter’s current offer.
Despite interest from Barcelona, Atlético Madrid, and Arsenal earlier in the window, Lookman is focused on joining Inter, and reports suggest he’s even willing to reduce his wage demands to help move the deal along.
Today is expected to be pivotal, with Inter reportedly issuing a deadline for Atalanta’s response. Inter executives Giuseppe Marotta and Piero Ausilio remain hopeful, as manager Cristian Chivu eyes Lookman as the final piece in an attacking puzzle.
Inter Milan finished second behind champions Napoli in Serie A last season and are keen to reclaim the title they won for the 20th time last year.
