Bayern Executive Duo Faces Uncertain Future

Bayern Munich could face another shuffle in the sporting hierarchy as two key officials face uncertain future this summer.

After winning the Bundesliga title, Bayern Munich have endured a frustrating summer so far. They bowed out of the Club World Cup in the quarter-final, courtesy of a 2-0 defeat against Paris Saint-Germain.

Meanwhile, the summer transfer window has been one to forget for the Bavarian club. Die Roten missed out on their prime target as Florian Wirtz preferred a move to Liverpool. Bayern also couldn’t get their first-choice targets on the left wing for different reasons. The contract talks with Leroy Sane also broke down, which saw him join Galatasaray on a free transfer.

The spotlight is firmly on the director of sport- Max Eberl, and the sporting director- Christoph Freund, to strengthen the squad next season. The murmurs in German media suggest that the future of Eberl and Freund at Bayern is uncertain.

According to Sky Sports in Germany (via iMiaSanMia), Red Bull wants to bring Freund back into their setup. It remains to be seen if they want him for a role at RB Salzburg or RB Leipzig. Freund worked at RB Salzburg before joining Bayern in 2023.

Along with Freund, Eberl is also facing an uncertain future at Bayern. The Bundesliga champions are open to making significant changes in the structure after the end of the transfer window.

Bayern already have replacements in mind
Sky Sports in Germany has also revealed that the likes of Markus Krosche and Ralf Rangnick are being considered at Bayern Munich. Krosche is currently working as the sporting director at Eintracht Frankfurt. Considering the impressive performances from Frankfurt over the last few seasons, Krosche was expected to attract interest from other clubs.

Meanwhile, Ralf Rangnick has been on Bayern’s radar for a long time. He is currently working as the head coach of the Austrian national team. Die Roten tried to appoint him as the head coach last summer, but he decided to stick with his current role.

Along with his coaching, Rangnick is also considered one of the shrewdest operators in Germany when it comes to building a squad. He got plaudits for his work at RB Leipzig that saw the club become an established member of the first division in Germany.

For now, the immediate concern for Eberl and Freund is to find the right players for Kompany. They are working on a deal to sign Nick Woltemade from VfB Stuttgart. Die Roten had first bid rejected for the German forward. It is going to be a difficult deal to pull off since Stuttgart are under no pressure to sell. Bayern also need a winger after the departure of Leroy Sane.
