It’s official: Lorenzo Insigne and Toronto FC have parted ways by mutual agreement. The former Napoli captain, once MLS’s headline signing, is now a free agent — and the football world is watching closely.
From Serie A Icon to MLS Experiment
Insigne arrived in Toronto in 2022 with big expectations and even bigger wages. But injuries, inconsistency, and a struggling team meant the Italian winger never truly found his stride in Canada.
Now, at 33, he’s back on the market — and still has plenty to offer.
Where Could He Land?
Back to Italy? A return to Serie A is the most likely move. Clubs like Lazio or Fiorentina may welcome his experience.
Saudi or Qatar? A lucrative Middle Eastern deal could tempt him for one final payday.
Dark Horse Options? Teams in Turkey, Portugal, or even the Premier League could explore a short-term deal.
What It Means for Toronto FC
This move clears salary space and opens a Designated Player slot. Toronto can now pivot and rebuild — hopefully with more success this time.

Insigne’s North American chapter may be closed, but his story isn’t over. A free agent with world-class talent? Someone’s bound to come calling.
