Ghana star Mohammed Fuseini attacked and robbed after Brussels nightclub ordeal

Ghana international Mohammed Fuseini was violently attacked and robbed by a group of masked assailants after leaving a Brussels nightclub, with police already arresting one suspect following an assault that was captured on video.

The Union Saint-Gilloise forward was dragged from his vehicle before his attackers stole his Rolex watch and mobile phone in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Five masked men target Fuseini

The incident occurred at approximately 6:30am on Avenue Louise in Brussels after Fuseini left the Bloody Louis nightclub.

The 24-year-old had only reached his parked vehicle, located around 300 metres from the venue, when he was ambushed by five hooded attackers.

Despite attempting to defend himself, Fuseini was overwhelmed as three of the attackers reportedly restrained him in a headlock while the others stole his valuables, including a Rolex Datejust worth between €8,000 and €14,000, along with his mobile phone.

Team-mate records attack

A Union Saint-Gilloise team-mate walking behind Fuseini recorded part of the assault on a mobile phone, with the footage proving crucial in helping Belgian police identify those involved.

Fuseini was later taken to hospital for precautionary checks before returning to the club.

In an official statement, Union Saint-Gilloise said:

“The footage from last Sunday is particularly disturbing. He subsequently went to the hospital for a check-up and received excellent care from the Brussels police, whom we warmly thank for their outstanding work. His injuries are minor, and he resumed training yesterday.”

Police arrest suspect

The Brussels Public Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that a 23-year-old suspect has been placed in custody at Haren Prison after police allegedly recovered stolen items during a search of his home.

In a statement quoted by Het Laatste Nieuws, prosecutors said:

“Three individuals fell victim to a violent robbery while heading to their vehicle in Brussels. According to initial findings from the investigation, several individuals attacked them and stole various valuables, including watches, phones, and personal belongings.”

The suspect’s lawyer, Samuel Rosenblatt, confirmed his client’s detention while declining to comment further due to the ongoing investigation.

“I cannot say anything further about that, as the judicial investigation is still ongoing. My client is aware of the severity of the facts and regrets them.”

Investigation continues

Belgian prosecutors are pursuing charges of violent gang robbery, with investigators continuing efforts to identify the remaining suspects involved in the attack.

Authorities confirmed that two of the three victims suffered injuries resulting in temporary incapacity for work.

For Fuseini, the incident marks another setback after an injury-disrupted 2025-26 campaign in which muscle, ankle and hamstring problems sidelined him for 145 days, causing him to miss 25 matches.

The Ghana international remains an important member of Union Saint-Gilloise’s squad, having scored 14 goals in 71 appearances for the Belgian club since his arrival. He is contracted until 2028.
