Le Fee Completes Permanent Move To Sunderland

Roma have confirmed that midfielder Enzo Le Fee has left the club and that he has completed a permanent move to join newly-promoted Premier League side Sunderland.

The Frenchman, who joined Roma in the summer of 2024, spent the second half of the 2024-25 season on loan in the EFL Championship with Sunderland, who have since triggered their obligation to buy.

There was an obligation to buy clause in the event that Sunderland earned promotion to the Premier League at the end of the 2024-25 season, which was achieved via the EFL Play-offs with a 2-1 win over Sheffield United at the end of May.

Sunderland have announced the permanent signing of Le Fee for an undisclosed fee, but reports at the time of the Frenchman’s loan move suggested that the Black Cats will pay around €23m to make the move permanent, roughly the same fee that Roma paid to sign him from Rennes last summer.

Le Fee made just 10 appearances during his short spell on Roma’s books, six of which were in Serie A.

His time in the capital coincided with a period of managerial instability, with Daniele De Rossi sacked just four games into the season, and his replacement, Ivan Juric, only lasting until November.

What Roma said about Le Fee’s move to Sunderland
“AS Roma can confirm that Enzo Le Fée has completed his transfer to Sunderland,” a statement from the Roma club website read.

“The French midfielder joined Roma in the summer of 2024 and made 10 appearances in total with the team.

“On 10 January 2025 he moved to Sunderland on loan until the end of the season. After joining Sunderland, the English team secured promotion to the Premier League by beating Sheffield United in the Championship play-off final.

“Good luck with this new adventure in the Premier League, Enzo!”
