Madrid Seeks Rapid Completion Of Alexander-Arnold’s Transfer

Real Madrid are attempting to sign Trent Alexander-Arnold immediately after the end of the season to ensure the Liverpool defender is available for this summer’s FIFA Club World Cup. Alexander-Arnold confirmed on Monday he will leave his boyhood club when his contract expires at the end of next month.

The 26-year-old is expected to join Real Madrid, with the European Super League advocates having failed in transfer approach for the player during the January transfer window.

And although the Spanish side will be able to sign Alexander-Arnold as a free agent at the start of July, they now want the right-back as part of their squad ahead of next month’s revamped Club World Cup.

That would involve Liverpool permitting an early release of the England international from his contract in exchange for a small fee.

The transfer window opens for a short period between June 1 and June 10 due to an exceptional registration period, primarily to allow those competing in the Club World Cup to sign players. It will re-open on June 16, two days after the tournament begins.

If Real Madrid are unable to thrash out an agreement with Liverpool for the early release of Alexander-Arnold, the player will be ineligible to feature in the competition in the United States and instead have to wait until the following month to complete a free transfer to the Bernabeu outfit.

Alexander-Arnold remains available for selection for Liverpool during the final three Premier League games of the season and will take part in the parade around the city on May 26 to salute the Reds having won their 20th championship.
