Xabi Alonso open to Boniface, Schick strike partnership
Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso has hinted at the possibility of deploying a two-man attack featuring Victor Boniface and Patrick Schick in future matches.
The pair played together for the first time this season during Leverkusen’s 3-2 victory over FC Cologne in the DFB-Pokal quarterfinal on Wednesday.
Both strikers made a significant impact, with Schick scoring the team’s second goal and Boniface sealing the win with the third.
When asked about the potential for more appearances with both forwards leading the attack, Alonso said, “Yes, that’s an option. We decide what we need for every game, and if we think that they can link up and understand what the team needs, it’s an option.”
Leverkusen will face Wolfsburg away on Sunday in their next Bundesliga fixture.
