UNILAG’s Lateef Keeps It Late To Become King Of Scrabble In The Jungle Season 2

It was a true test of psychological endurance and mental strength in the second season of Scrabble In The Jungle! -The Gen Z Edition as Musa Lateef, a University of Lagos student won the title after 32 rounds of the game.

The 200-level Bio-medical Engineering student deployed grit and word skills and at times, unusual strategy to keep his score above other highly-worded rivals as he was crowned the “King of the Jungle” with 20 wins with a cumulative of 654 points.

The “Word -bank” exhumed confidence even when he was pushed to the final round by his closest opponent and “Day One Champ” Wasiu Hassan whose defeat in the last round saw him drop to the third on the log with 19 wins and a cumulative of 862 points.

“It was a tough one! Having won Day 2 as ‘The Champ’, I was shocked when I started the third day with a defeat to Kareem Jamiu. I was like, is this how the day is going to be?” queried the 3rd best youth player in Africa who doesn’t take a meal during a tournament.

“But, as my luck would have it, In my second game, I played a non-word which my opponent failed to challenge so, I used it to earn my first win. It was a very tough tournament but in the end, it was at the very last game I secured my victory.”

Current African Youth champion David Ojih would profit from Hassan’s fall as he climbed to second position with 20 wins after he defeated fourth-placed Kareem Jamiu in the last round.

Lateef, Ojih, Hassan and Jamiu received 300,000 naira, 220,000 naira,150,000 naira and 80,000 naira respectively while fifth-placed Emmanuel Enyi earned 50,000 naira for his efforts.

Muyiwa Mosope won the prize for the Best Behaved Housemate after the 3-day tournament.

Other participants who featured at the boot camp were; Akeem Ogundokun, Priscilla Akhabue, Oghenekaro Onakpogbe and Ola Joy.

President of Scrabble Las Vegas Dr. Musa Olasupo in his closing remarks thanked sponsors; Thrive Agric, PANASA, FPC Couture, EEAST, JAMSC, Mindgames Incorporated, Chiamaka Apparel and a host of others who supported the success of the SITJ including every subscriber who bought into the project.

” We can’t but thank all our sponsors and subscribers for their strong support and everyone who helped us to achieve success in this second season. The journey is a little bit stiff but we are happy that we are making progress” he stated, “Our vision for Scrabble In The Jungle! is to replicate the big brand like Big Brother Nigeria where we can bring in the best of Scrabble players in Nigeria under one enclosure and get viewers’ participation where players will be up for eviction and maybe build a support base for scrabble. Bilic returns to the national team after more than a decade away, ending a two-year absence from management as he begins a second spell in charge of his country. ## Bilic begins a second spell with Croatia The Croatian Football Federation (HNS) announced Bilic’s appointment after the Executive Committee unanimously approved the recommendation of federation president Marijan Kustic. Bilic previously managed Croatia between 2006 and 2012, guiding the national team through two European Championships before embarking on a successful club coaching career that included spells with West Ham United, West Bromwich Albion, Besiktas and Al-Ittihad. The federation believes his experience and deep understanding of Croatian football make him the ideal candidate to lead the next generation. ## Huge task replacing Zlatko Dalic Bilic succeeds one of the most successful managers in Croatia’s history. Dalic stepped down after the 2026 World Cup, bringing an end to a remarkable tenure that included a World Cup final, a World Cup semi-final and several memorable tournament campaigns. Federation president Marijan Kustic acknowledged the size of the challenge but expressed complete confidence in Bilic. > “I would like to once again thank Zlatko for the exceptional results he achieved during his tenure. It is not easy to follow in his footsteps, but we are convinced Slaven is the right person for this role.” Kustic added that Bilic’s international pedigree and extensive coaching experience were decisive factors behind the appointment. ## Bilic honoured to return Bilic described his return as the greatest honour of his coaching career and admitted he understands the expectations that come with leading one of international football’s most consistent tournament teams. > “I would like to thank President Kustic and the Federation’s leadership for the confidence they have shown in allowing me to lead the Croatian national team once again — the greatest honour for any Croatian coach.” The 57-year-old also praised the standards established under Dalic while insisting he is ready for the responsibility. > “I am fully aware of the high expectations that follow such a remarkable period under Zlatko Dalic, but anyone who takes charge of Croatia must be prepared for that because we are a football nation that lives and breathes its national team.” ## A new chapter begins Bilic now faces the task of building on Dalic’s legacy while preparing Croatia for the next international cycle. With a blend of experienced stars and emerging young talent at his disposal, Croatia will hope their returning manager can guide them to another successful era on the international stage.
