‘If I were him, I’d do it!’ – Lamine Yamal urges Julian Alvarez to leave Atletico Madrid for Barcelona

Lamine Yamal has thrown his support behind Barcelona’s pursuit of Julian Alvarez, admitting he would love to see the Atletico Madrid striker make the switch to Camp Nou this summer.

The teenage sensation believes the Argentine forward would thrive in Catalonia and insists Barcelona remains the ideal destination for any world-class player.

Yamal sends transfer message to Alvarez

Speaking to El Larguero from Spain’s World Cup training camp, Yamal made no secret of his admiration for Alvarez and openly encouraged him to complete the move.

“Right now I don’t think about it much, but I hope so, because he is a great player,” Yamal said.

“If he comes, we would welcome him with open arms. He is coming to the best club in the world, the best fans in the world, and the best city in the world, in my opinion.

“So, if I were him, I’d do it. If he wants to come, we are waiting for him, go ahead.”

The comments come amid growing speculation surrounding Alvarez’s future in Madrid.

Simeone prepared to let striker leave

Reports suggest Diego Simeone is now prepared to sanction Alvarez’s departure following a breakdown in their relationship.

The Argentina international is believed to have informed Atletico Madrid that he wants a new challenge after two seasons at the Metropolitano, with Barcelona emerging as his preferred destination.

Despite producing consistently impressive performances, Alvarez is reportedly seeking a leading role in attack—something Barcelona are prepared to offer as they begin planning for life after Robert Lewandowski.

Simeone, meanwhile, is understood to be willing to approve the transfer if it helps restore harmony within the dressing room.

Barcelona continue to work on blockbuster deal

Yamal is not the only Barcelona star to publicly endorse Alvarez’s arrival.

Midfielder Pedri recently admitted he always wants “the best players” at Barcelona, although he acknowledged the club must first overcome significant financial hurdles before any agreement can be reached.

The Blaugrana continue to view Alvarez as their priority long-term striker and are reportedly preparing a major offer to convince Atletico Madrid to sell.

However, negotiations are expected to be complicated, with Atletico determined to demand a premium fee before allowing one of their biggest stars to strengthen a direct La Liga rival.
