Djibril Cissé Warns Chelsea Star Estevão: Talent Alone Won’t Win the Ballon d’Or
Former Liverpool striker Djibril Cissé has praised Chelsea’s teenage sensation Estevão after his match-winning performance against Liverpool but also warned that raw talent will not be enough if he dreams of lifting the Ballon d’Or in the future.
The 17-year-old winger, already drawing comparisons with some of football’s brightest young stars, scored the decisive goal at Stamford Bridge, further cementing his place as one of the most exciting prospects in the Premier League.
Speaking in an interview with Poker Strategy, Cissé highlighted both the promise and the pressure that comes with such early success:
“It is really good to see Estevão playing so well in the Premier League at such a young age. He has put in some really strong performances this season. I thought he changed the game against Liverpool.”
Cissé, who enjoyed a decorated playing career with Liverpool, Auxerre, and Marseille, pointed out that while players like Estevão and Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal have immense talent, the path to global recognition requires more than just skill.
“There are a lot of talented young players at the moment like him and Lamine Yamal, but their careers will depend a lot on how they grow up. Yamal was second in the Ballon d’Or, but to win big awards like that you need more than talent. Estevão will need to be mentally strong and consistent at the top level with more big moments.”
Cissé believes Estevão’s goal against Liverpool could serve as an important milestone in his development, but consistency and mental resilience will be the real tests in the years ahead.
As Chelsea continues to rebuild with young stars, Estevão’s journey will be closely followed—not just by the Blues faithful, but by the global football community eager to see if he can rise to the level of greatness.
