Song Urges Arsenal To Sign ’30-Goal’ Osimhen
Former Arsenal midfielder Alex Song has publicly thrown his weight behind a potential move by Arsenal for Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen.
Song believes Osimhen is the type of prolific forward the Gunners need to compete for major honors, including the Premier League title.
Speaking in an interview with TalkSport, the Cameroonian midfielder praised Osimhen’s attributes, describing him as “young, hungry, and dangerous in the box.” He added that Arsenal needs a proven goalscorer who can guarantee 30 goals a season—something Osimhen is capable of delivering.
“If Arsenal signs Osimhen, it could be the difference between finishing second and winning the league,” Alex Song said.
Osimhen, currently with Napoli, has been linked with several top European clubs after an impressive 2022/23 season where he helped his club to their first Serie A title in over three decades.
Despite recent injury concerns, the Nigerian forward remains one of the hottest properties in the transfer market. Arsenal, in search of a reliable striker to complement their attacking setup, are said to be monitoring his situation closely.
Song, who spent seven years at Arsenal before moving to Barcelona, believes Osimhen’s style of play fits perfectly with Mikel Arteta’s tactical system.
“He presses well, he’s physical, and he finishes chances. That’s what Arsenal are missing right now,” he said.
While Osimhen’s price tag—reportedly over €100 million—could be a stumbling block, Song believes the investment would pay off. “If you want to be champions, you have to spend like champions. Osimhen is worth it,” he added.
As Arsenal prepare for another title challenge next season, fans and pundits alike continue to debate whether the addition of a marquee striker like Osimhen could finally break their Premier League drought
