Rennes Joins Palace In Super Eagles Star Race
Super Eagles defender Bright Osayi-Samuel could be on the move this summer, with Ligue 1 side Stade Rennais emerging as a surprise contender for his signature amid mounting speculation over his Fenerbahce future, according to Soccernet.
The 26-year-old full-back, who has impressed at Turkish giants Fenerbahce since arriving from QPR in 2021, is approaching the final weeks of his contract, with no signs of renewal in sight. Talks between Osayi-Samuel and the Istanbul club have reportedly collapsed, fuelling rumours that a departure is imminent.
Reports in France suggest that Rennes have identified Osayi-Samuel as a potential replacement for Lorenz Assignon, who is on the verge of completing a €13 million move to Bundesliga side Stuttgart.
The French outfit are actively seeking to fill the right-back slot ahead of the new season, and Osayi-Samuel’s athleticism, versatility, and international experience appear to fit the bill.
England or France? Rennes plot shock move for Super Eagles star Bright Osayi-Samuel
Valued at around €6 million, the Super Eagles defender has become a dependable figure in Turkey, known for his high energy and ability to operate both defensively and offensively.
He made 37 appearances for Fenerbahce this season as the club once again fell short in the Super Lig title race, finishing second to arch-rivals Galatasaray.
Despite his strong individual performances, the former QPR star appears to be preparing for life after Fenerbahce.
A report from Turkish outlet Milliyet claims he has already begun moving personal belongings back to England — a potential sign that a Premier League or Championship return may be in the works.
Crystal Palace are believed to be at the front of the queue, with the Eagles keen to reinforce their defence. However, Rennes’ growing interest could spark a cross-channel transfer tussle.
Since joining Fenerbahce in a €500,000 deal three years ago, Osayi-Samuel has clocked up 176 appearances and netted seven goals.
He has also earned 22 caps for Nigeria, including against Rwanda and Zimbabwe during the World Cup qualifiers in March.
